About Dr. Stephen G. Somkuti, MD, PhD

Dr. Stephen G. Somkuti is a distinguished reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist with over 35 years of experience. He relocated from Philadelphia to Manhattan and is currently affiliated with FERNY Fertility New York.

Education and Training

Dr. Somkuti earned his medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in 1989.

He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Duke University Medical Center and a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also holds a PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology from Duke University, where his research focused on male reproductive toxicology.

Clinical Expertise and Research

Board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, reproductive endocrinology, and infertility, Dr. Somkuti specializes in treating female and male infertility. His clinical expertise includes in vitro fertilization (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), and preimplantation genetic testing.

Academic and Professional Contributions

Dr. Somkuti has authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and textbooks. He has served as a clinical investigator in more than 20 major fertility trials and has lectured internationally. His academic appointments have included roles as clinical assistant professor at Jefferson Medical College and associate professor at Temple University School of Medicine.

Awards and Recognition

Throughout his career, Dr. Somkuti has received numerous local, national, and international awards for his contributions to reproductive medicine. He has been consistently recognized as a “Philadelphia Top Doc” and has held leadership roles, including president of the Philadelphia Area Reproductive Endocrinologist Society.
