September 2026
| | "Continuing Our Legacy of Excellence." | | |
Dear Langston Family,
As we enter September, I am grateful for the commitment and generosity that continue to move our Association forward. Our theme, “Continuing Our Legacy of Excellence,” comes to life through the members, partners, and supporters who give their time and resources to strengthen our profession and serve our communities.
This month, our Sponsors and Donors Appreciation Event provided an opportunity to thank those whose investments make our work possible. From supporting scholarships for deserving law students to sustaining our programming and community outreach, their generosity helps turn Langston’s mission into meaningful opportunities. To every sponsor and donor: thank you for believing in our work and helping us carry it forward.
September also brings an opportunity to celebrate our sibling organization, Black Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, at its installation on September 26. We congratulate its incoming leadership and distinguished honorees, Theresa Cropper, Justice Audrey B. Collins (Ret.), and Rhea Ricard. Our continuing collaboration with BWL reflects the strength of our shared commitment to connection, service, and the advancement of Black lawyers.
As we approach the final months of the year, I encourage each of you to remain involved. Attend a program, join a committee, mentor a law student, or introduce a colleague to Langston. The relationships we build today help prepare the leaders who will carry this Association into the future.
Our legacy also calls us to stand firmly for equal justice, opportunity, and the dignity of the communities we serve. Whether in the courtroom, the boardroom, the ballot box or through community service, each of us has a role in fulfilling that responsibility.
Thank you for the privilege of serving as your President. I look forward to all we will accomplish together this fall.
Onward and upward,
Ludlow B. Creary II, Esq.
President
The John M. Langston Bar Association

JUDICIAL EVALUATIONS COMMITTEE
Call for Judicial Candidates & Committee Volunteers
The Langston Bar Association’s Judicial Evaluations Committee supports the advancement of a highly qualified and representative judiciary by evaluating candidates seeking judicial appointment and providing recommendations to the Governor’s Office. Through a fair, thorough, and confidential process, the Committee assesses candidates’ qualifications, experience, integrity, temperament, and commitment to equal justice and the fair administration of the law.
SEEKING JUDICIAL CANDIDATES
Langston members and other candidates who have applied for judicial appointment and are interested in being interviewed and evaluated by the Committee are encouraged to contact Co-Chairs Bernie Brown and James Sargent. The Committee welcomes the opportunity to meet with candidates and provide Langston’s perspective and recommendation as part of the judicial appointments process.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The Committee is actively seeking Langston members to participate in candidate interviews and the evaluation process. This is an important opportunity to contribute directly to Langston’s voice in the judicial selection process and help ensure that outstanding candidates receive thoughtful and meaningful consideration.
We need your participation. Members from all practice areas and levels of experience are encouraged to volunteer. A broad cross-section of perspectives strengthens the Committee’s work and the quality of its evaluations.
Interested in being evaluated or volunteering?
Please contact Bernie Brown (bernicerambodog@yahoo.com) or James Sargent (jsargent@glaserweil.com), Co-Chairs, Judicial Evaluations Committee.

Volunteers Also Needed For The Above Event!
We need volunteers to help pass out flyers, assist with pro-bono will preparation (no experience necessary), manage attendee intake and waivers, guide participants to relevant community partner stations, and conduct 10–15 minute consultations to triage legal needs and provide community resources.
Interested people can email Chris Martin, Esq. at cdmartinlaw@gmail.com or can text at (323) 359-2211. Thanks!
