Lest we Forget: Remembrance Day

This Remembrance Day, we pause as a club and as a community to reflect on the sacrifices made by veterans, active service members, and their families. The peace, freedom, and sense of safety we enjoy when we gather on the trails are possible because of those who have served and continue to serve.

On November 11, we encourage our members to take a moment of silence—whether you are at home, in town at a ceremony, or out in the forest—to remember those who gave their lives and those who returned carrying the weight of their experiences.

From all of us at the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club, thank you to the men and women who have served, and to the families who have supported them. We remember, and we are grateful.

Snowmaking Volunteers Wanted:

Help Us Bring Winter to Life!

As soon as temperatures drop, we’ll be firing up the snow guns — and we need your help to make it happen!

Our grooming crew handles the night shifts, but when the cold sets in, we run snowmaking 24 hours a day to build a solid base quickly and cost-effectively. With the right conditions, just 10 continuous days of snowmaking can set us up for an early start and an extended season well into March or April.

We are looking for dedicated volunteers to join the day shift team (3+ hour shifts, weekdays).

Do you…

  • Work well outdoors, even when it’s cold, wet, or windy?
  • Feel comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs (those hoses and cables can be hefty)?
  • Pay close attention to detail and follow direction easily?
  • Want to be part of the team that makes skiing possible for everyone?

If so — we want you on the crew!

Training is provided, safety is our top priority, and a veteran grooming staff member will be on site to support and guide you throughout your shift.

Be part of the magic that turns Caledonia white.

SDP COACHES NEEDED NOW

WE CAN NOT RUN WITHOUT YOU

The snow has teased us with a few early flakes — just enough to remind us that winter is near! Whether it falls from the clouds or blasts from the snow guns, the season is coming fast, and our Skills Development Program (SDP) is getting ready to roll.

There is only one thing missing: we need more coaches.

Every season, our volunteer coaches make it possible for kids to get outside, build confidence, and fall in love with skiing. Right now, some of our young skiers are waiting for coaches to lead their groups — and we don’t want anyone left behind.

If you have ever thought about helping, this is the perfect time. You don’t need to be an expert skier — just someone who enjoys being active, outdoors, and part of a great team.

We will set you up for success with:

  • Free coaching certification and training (Community Coaching Course in Prince George)
  • Mentorship and lesson support from experienced coaches
  • A fun, flexible team environment
  • Refund of your child’s SDP registration if you take on a Lead Coach role

High School Students — this is for you too!

If you need volunteer hours to graduate, why not earn them outside on the snow? We’re happy to provide letters, certification, and mentorship to help you meet your graduation requirements while making a difference for younger skiers. There’s no better way to volunteer than helping kids discover the joy of skiing!

The snow will be here before we know it — let’s make sure every child has a coach waiting when it does.

Trails Committee Update

Volunteer Opportunity

We are currently seeking to add a new member to our Trails Committee. This committee plays an important role in guiding the development, maintenance, and future planning of our trail network throughout the year.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Mark Earle, who has been a dedicated member of the Trails Committee for many years and has now decided to move on. We thank him for his time, commitment, and contributions to the success of our trails program.

If you are interested in joining the Trails Committee or would like more information, please contact our Trails Director, Paul Schuetz. Your insight, experience, and passion for trails can make a real difference in the continued growth of our club.

Be Part of the Olympic Dream!

Caledonia Nordic is gearing up for an incredible season of events — and we’re always looking for volunteers to help make them happen!

Our next big event is one you won’t want to miss:

The Canadian Olympic Trials – December 12–16, 2025

This prestigious competition will determine which athletes represent Canada at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Italy. The best skiers in the country will be racing right here in Prince George — and you can have a front-row ticket as a volunteer!

Volunteers are essential to the success of every event we host, from course prep and timing to hospitality and logistics. No experience is necessary — just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to help.

If you’d like to be part of the action, meet amazing athletes, and experience the excitement up close, we’d love to have you join the team.
