Keeping Connected
What's New? Career Boost Events
Workforce Solutions East Texas strives to be the pillar of knowledge when it comes to making educated decisions when choosing your future career path! This is why we have created an innovative and educational presentation for our clients to attend called Career Boost. Career Boost centers around high-demand jobs in the East Texas area and provides statistical labor market information about the occupation. After the information session of this event, participants can hear from a local educator who teaches this career path and a local employer about opportunities available in this area. The goal is to connect the entire career pathway for interested clients to have all the information to make an informed decision when it comes to choosing their future career path!
Our next Career Boost event will be focused on the pathway to becoming OSHA 30 Certified. Ready to join us? Click the button below to access the registration. We look forward to seeing you there!

Mykeyus Woods
WIOA Participant - Success Story
It's our pleasure to introduce our WIOA participant, Mykeyus Woods. Mykeyus came to Workforce Solutions because he wasn't sure what he wanted to do with his life, and asking for help came hard for him. He knows that many young people from backgrounds similar to his may have the same mindset. His advice to them: "If somebody is willing to help, take the help."
Mykeyus learned about our WIOA program through his uncle, who had earned his CDL through the program. He researched a career path in the electrical trades and decided he would like to explore a career as an electrician.
Mykeyus entered into on-the-job training with East Texas Electrical and Lift in Longview. He met with the company's owner, David Fisher, to discuss the agreement. When David asked Mykeyus when he wanted to start working, Mykeyus responded he'd love to start that day, right then. David told him, "here's my tools, here we are, and I'll stand here, and I'll show you what to do."
David says he's honored to be teaching his trade to young people. He loves watching them learn and grow as workers and as people. As he enters the end of his professional career, David wants to pass on his knowledge to the next generation. He worries that the trades are dying and knows that the key to keeping them alive is to pass on his skills to young proteges like Mykeyus.
Mykeyus is a hard worker with a heart of gold. He'd like to earn a good career and move back to Dallas to start an organization to help the youth of the area. Coming from the same background, he wishes that someone would have reached out to him when he needed it, and he feels the calling to be that person for the next generation of youth in that area. He urges young people, "Know what you want to do, have it set in your mind that this is what I want to do, and people will come and help you. That's what the Workforce has done for me, and they'll definitely do the same for you."

Spotlight
Take a bow...You've earned it!
Workforce Solutions would like to recognize Jennifer Mueller. Jennifer began her journey in workforce development in 2019 in the Dallas area in a temporary position through the TANF program. Jennifer had hoped the position would become permanent, but unfortunately, her placement time ended without a position offered. "In those short few months, I had enjoyed everything we did for the community and how we helped. I wanted to continue to be a part of that."
Soon after, Jennifer moved to Longview and applied with Workforce Solutions East Texas. She said, "I was nervous as nervous could be. I didn't know what I was going to do if Longview didn't hire me." Luckily, Jennifer was offered the job as a Youth Advisor for the Longview area. She takes great pride in helping shape today's young people, even if only for a short time. "Everyone needs someone, and I may be that person's only someone," said Jennifer.
While Jennifer has seven children at home, she still makes time to help her youth clients. One of her program participants, Mr. Green, stated, "She was awesome! She communicated well, was always happy, and came with a really good vibe. And no matter what time it was, she would answer my question. She was just really attentive, and I like that."
Jennifer has grown to love her job and her work family. "Here I am ten months later with the amazing people I work with, and I couldn't be happier to help the community! Working with such a great group of people is what gets me up early every day, ready for whatever the next day holds for me!"
Thank you for your service, Jennifer! We look forward to watching you make changes in others' lives, and we proudly stand next to you as you help shape the future of East Texas by assisting our youth participants!
