Welcome to the October CLC Newsletter -- a message from our President & CEO

October has brought new opportunities to share CLC’s mission—and meaningful support to help carry it forward. From local media coverage to a generous grant and a new member of our board, we are grateful for the people and organizations helping more adults find their next opportunity through education. That support matters every day. It helps adults strengthen their reading, writing and English skills, prepare for high school equivalency and citizenship, and gain confidence in situations that once felt out of reach.

In this issue, we’re celebrating the community behind that work and the learners whose determination gives it purpose. Thank you for being part of CLC.

— Sharron Jackson, President & CEO

Learning together, one page at at time

Reading Partners, October 2026 Edition

The group pictured in this month’s newsletter header includes CLC Reading Partners and the learners they support.

Reading together can open the door to much more than a better vocabulary.

In CLC’s Reading Partners program, adult learners practice reading and conversation with the encouragement of their reading partners. Materials selected around students’ interests and abilities create opportunities to explore new words, ask questions and become more comfortable using English.

At a recent mid-session meeting, partners described steady progress among returning students and shared approaches that help build confidence, including bilingual reading and breaking unfamiliar words into manageable parts. Students also benefit from practicing presentation skills.

We are grateful to the learners who keep working toward their goals and the partners who meet them with patience, preparation and encouragement. Learn about Reading Partners

Community Support: Grant Helps Sustain Adult Learning

$10,000 award received from Love Family Affiliated Fund

CLC has been awarded a $10,000 grant through the Love Family Affiliated Fund, managed by Love’s Travel Stops, to support our general operations.

Support like this helps sustain the people, programs and everyday resources that make adult education possible. Behind each class is the work of connecting students with instruction, supporting teachers and volunteers, and creating opportunities for adults balancing education with jobs and family responsibilities.

We are grateful to the Love Family Affiliated Fund and Love’s Travel Stops for investing in CLC and the adults we serve. Their generosity helps keep our mission moving forward: changing lives through literacy. Support adult learners.
