A Message from NARFE FL President
|
|
Dear NARFE Florida Members,
It seems like it was a short time ago that we wished everyone a happy New Year. Where have the past nine months gone and what are we challenged with for the remaining months of this year?
The last four months of the year have numerous Holy days and other days of note to be honored. Counted among NARFE members are numerous veterans and we need to be mindful of Veterans Day. Currently, we are mindful of a variety of atrocities taking place throughout the world. Whether we are directly or indirectly related, we must be sensitive to all who embrace a variety of beliefs. Beginning with September there were Jewish Holy days, Diwali is celebrated in October, Veterans and Thanksgiving in November, Winter Solstice, Jewish and Chistian Holy Days in December. We wish for everyone’s physical as well as spiritual safety.
Speaking of the last four months, this is the time to reeducate yourselves on health insurance options. There are a variety of health fairs throughout the state. Blue Cross Blue Shield hosts fairs where NARFE is invited to recruit members. Different jurisdictions are doing some things differently. Central Florida will not have a NARFE representative at the BCBS fairs this year. However, many Chapters are hosting speakers from different FEHB groups. All members are entitled to visit Chapter meetings throughout NARFE. Please avail yourself of this option. Check FedHub and Facebook for announcements from various chapters. You also have the option to view and participate in webinars offered by NARFE. These webinars are valuable. There are deadlines for registering and making changes. Open season has a short window. In addition, long Term Care Insurance Plan members have until November 9, 2023, to make changes to their plan. If you were fortunate enough to be among the 1,000 members who participated in the live webinar for LTCIP, you received valuable information. The video is on www.narfe.org for all others to view. Please make time to view this video and remember to submit your selection appropriately by November 9, 2023.
NARFE Florida will host a combined District meeting and Statewide conference in 2024. Please make plans to participate. While there are few details at this time, we are attempting to make this the most user-friendly conference. We not only need your participation, but we also need your ideas as well and volunteerism. Please submit same to your District Vice President or any officers on the NARFE Florida Executive Board.
The report is that NARFE continues to support Alzheimer’s Research. Awards will be distributed to the top donors for the July 2022 to June 2023 fiscal year. NARFE Florida appreciates all contributions. However, NARFE Florida did not receive a reward for the past fiscal year. Georgia represented Region III in giving a sizable contribution to Alzheimer’s Research.
Finally, please avail yourself of our newsletters and website at www.flnarfe.com. The contributors work hard at keeping you informed by bringing relevant information. Your contributions and input are also being solicited. Our editor works tirelessly to assemble and maintain our newsletter and website. We appreciate all contributions, and we appreciate our Webmaster Susan Parkins.
Respectfully submitted,
Evelyn Seabrook, President
NARFE Florida, Inc.

Reminder from: Trish Vevera, Federation Assistance Chair.
It's Fall. Time to get rejuvenated, especially here in Florida. Do you or your chapter seek new members? Jump start your NARFE endeavors by placing an ad in a nearby paper or holding an Introduction to NARFE event. Some papers offer free announcements, but if not, you can apply to NARFE Florida for up to $200 each "semester" to advertise or pay in part for an event.. Take a look at the application form--it's easy, it's painless. You just have to spend a few minutes applying. Hoping to hear from you.

Recruiting and Retention Thought!
Remember, membership retention – like a marriage – is work. In fact it’s often harder to keep members than to get new ones.
A great recruiting pitch may get members in the DOOR, but it’s how your organization functions that’s going to keep them HANGING AROUND.
