What God is Doing in East Africa
Dear Ministry Partner,
When I was in Uganda in 2019, a young pastor shared with me, “While the gospel is widespread in Africa, it is very shallow.” I reflected on Matthew 28:19-20, where Jesus told His disciples, “Go and make disciples of all nations... teaching them to observe all I have commanded you.” I realized that where we have failed is in the last phrase. To make disciples and leaders, we need to train them in the Word of God and equip them for the work of ministry (Eph 4:11-14).
Since taking responsibility for expanding the training of Crossing Cultures International in East Africa last May, we have been busy. We first added Pastor Andrew Wakabi (left) and Pastor Abraham Koche (right) as CCI Staff to help us get started. Andrew is my assistant Regional Director and Abraham is responsible for Eastern Uganda. On August 2, 2022, Andrew and I went to Fort Portal in Western Uganda. We did what we called a vision casting event on Training Leaders in the Local Church. Then we shared the vision of CCI and did a Teacher Training Workshop (TTW) with 2 pastors, one of whom was Andrew’s assistant in Jinja. Then I traveled to Pallisa in Eastern Uganda. Abraham and I did 2 vision casting events and did a TTW with 6 pastors. Abraham and I also taught book #1 in a small village. We then had a graduation for the first time in Africa. We met at the River of God Church in Pallisa, and gave certificates to 13 pastors and leaders. Of the 13, 7 are now serving as pastors.

Since that trip, Andrew has started a new class in his church and is working with a new class in Fort Portal. He is looking to start a new class in southern Uganda near the Rwanda border. Abraham is currently teaching 3 new classes and a 4th class is ready for book 2.
In December 2022, Andrew and I conducted 3 vision casting presentations. We taught one of the seminars on “How to Deal with Conflict in the Local Church”. Then we shared the vision of the Biblical training we provide. One was close to Kigali, Rwanda (the capitol) in a small city in the mountains.
The local contact was Pastor Protais Nshogoza. He was a classmate of Andrew in Bible college. He is in his late 50’s and has a master's degree in Pastoral Counseling. His wife, 2 daughters, and mother were killed in the mass genocide in 1994, yet he has a very forgiving and humble spirit. He completed the CCI training many years ago. He has a real heart for expanding the training in Rwanda and Burundi.  He has traveled to Burundi and has several interested in the training. Pastor Protais is starting book #1 at his church, expecting 25 new students. The other 2 vision casting events were in Tanzania. We had a good response in both cities. Mwanza and Dar es Salaam (the capital-8 million). Andrew started book #1 in Dar-es-Salaam the last week of May.
About Andrew and Abraham
Andrew Wakabi, aka Andrew Victor, graduated from Glad Tidings Bible College and has a degree in electrical engineering (where he met his wife, Juliet). They have 3 daughters. He has a real passion for expanding the training throughout Africa.  Pastor Andrew is pastor of Gloryland Church in Jinja. He is working in an area that has a lot of poverty. The Gloryland Church has several hundred attendees and a awesome outreach program for young children.
Pastor Abraham Koche is pastor of Daystar Life Church in Pallisa. He has a degree in Bible and Theology as well as a degree in Social Development. He and his wife just welcomed a new addition to their family. He is currently teaching 3 courses in separate locations. He travels by motorcycle taxi to the classes.
I was planning to go to Uganda and South Sudan in early May 2023. Because of the civil war going on in Sudan, I decided to postpone that trip. I will be traveling to East Africa on July 18 for a little over 2 weeks. I will spend a few days with Pastor Abraham and Pastor Andrew in Uganda. Then Andrew and I will be traveling to Dar-es-Salaam to do Teacher Training Workshops in 2 of the districts there. We will be joined by Pastor Protais from Rwanda. We will be starting training him to be the national coordinator for Rwanda and Burundi. We will be there for a week and then Pastor Andrew and I will be traveling to Nairobi, Kenya to conduct a Teacher Training Workshop. Several weeks ago, the home office sent me 22 emails from pastors in Kenya and Tanzania requesting more information about our work there. I sent out emails to all of them and many in Kenya have responded to know more about our work there.
Thank you for your prayers and support.

Bob Loeffler
Regional Director for CCI East Africa
Our vision:

  1. To start new classes in different areas of each of the 6 countries.
  2. To train and equip leaders in each of the countries to oversee the training.
  3. To raise support for those national leaders for their work and travel expenses.
  4. To find churches to adopt a national leader.
  5. To find and train my successor.

Needs and prayer requests:

  1. For health and safety for our team as we travel.
  2. For key pastors to see the need of training in their locals.
  3. For monthly financial support for Andrew and Abraham, they both need at least $500 each.
  4. For travel expenses for the upcoming trip $3000 .
  5. For speedy recovery for Juliet Wakabi from recent surgery.
Will you prayerfully consider becoming a monthly financial partner with Bob so he can be fully funded to train and equip pastors and church leaders in these countries. We praise the Lord Jesus that there are already several people and churches who have become financial partners. Will you join them? He still needs $2500 monthly support.
