Introducing OnLand's Enhanced Pre-approval Service: Streamline Your Land Registration Process

Ken Wilkinson, OLS

Based on the success of the plan pre-approval by email service, ServiceOntario is now able to offer an improved pre-approval service through the OnLand portal.

After January 15, 2024, please submit all pre-approvals for survey plans, documents related to both subdivision and condominium registrations, and LTCQ to LT+ applications, through the OnLand portal using the Plan Pre-approval Request Form.

This new pre-approval service will require professional clients to complete a short checklist related to the submission confirming that the plan or application is ready to be submitted.

This checklist should be completed by the professional responsible for the submission.

Moving pre-approval to the OnLand portal is another step towards making OnLand a one-stop location for obtaining land registration services.

Drone Mapping: How to Select a LiDAR System

Dr. Ahmed El-Rabbany, Ph.D., P.Eng.

Toronto Metropolitan University

Selecting a survey-grade LiDAR system for drone-based topographic mapping can be challenging, especially when the system’s data sheet is difficult to read and/or lacks critical information. To appropriately select a commercial drone LiDAR system, users should consider the characteristics of four different sensors, namely the LiDAR sensor itself, the GNSS system, the inertial measurement unit (IMU), and the RGB camera. In addition, the accompanying software and its capabilities, including strip adjustment, are critical elements to consider. As a plus, a mission planning software, perhaps from the same manufacturer, should also be considered.
