November Ballot Updates, Bike Lane Chaos, TABOR Author Sues Over Pothole Tax, and More!

Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.

  • El Paso County Commissioner Cami Bremer will be the new CEO of Pikes Peak United Way. She will continue to fill her role as a county commissioner for the coming months while transitioning to this new position. Is this a conflict of interest?

  • Folks driving into Colorado from Wyoming will see a new billboard along I-25 informing them that they are actually entering Venezuela.

  • Colorado is one of the 10 states with the highest number of human trafficking reports. Remember when Colorado was known for things residents could be proud of?

  • The website Neighbor.com has selected Colorado Springs as the most neighborly city in the country.

  • One Academy School District 20 parent has filed a complaint about a page on the district's website that may violate the Fair Campaign Practices Act.

  • Denver is known as a haven for criminals, illegal immigrants, and drug-addled vagrants living on the streets. In response, Denver officials are planning a large downtown infrastructure redevelopment area, so people pooping on the sidewalk can have some new stuff to look at.

  • Denver Communists, an organization in Toilet City, hosted an online activist training session that also encouraged military members to take up arms against the government. You may recall, that at least one self-avowed Marxist served in the Colorado legislature just recently and caucused with democrats.

  • A Natural Grocers location in Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood is closing due to rampant theft and danger to employees.

  • Colorado ranchers are expressing frustration with the wolf reintroduction plan, stating that Parks and Wildlife officials are not following the plan’s recommendations. Perhaps the involvement of Jared Polis’ spouse has something to do with this chaos.

  • Colorado has the second-highest number of people quitting jobs, and the third-highest number of people being laid off, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

  • One issue on the November ballot could ban Denver’s only slaughterhouse. This ballot issue was pushed by animal rights activists.

  • Billions of COVID-relief dollars were stolen by fraudsters across the U.S., and that’s only the amount stolen by regular people. If you take theft by people in Congress into consideration, it’s in the trillions.

  • Ballot Issue 2C, the renewal of the “pothole tax”, is headed to Colorado Springs voters. Did you know that only 33% of dollars collected under this tax go toward paving and pothole repair?

  • Also in 2C news this week, Douglas Bruce, the author of TABOR, is suing Colorado Springs to remove the 2C “pothole tax” once and for all. Bruce states that the ballot language of the proposal violates the TABOR law.

  • The City Clerk of Colorado Springs has released the city’s preliminary redistricting map. Public meetings to discuss redistricting will be held in late October.

  • Three schools in the District 11 system are being closely monitored by the state Department of Education. Students at these schools performed inadequately on state assessment tests.

  • In Denver, on-street parking in some neighborhoods is being eliminated to provide bicycle lanes that few people use. If it appears that government officials are using oppressive measures to make it difficult to impossible for you to transport yourself in the way you prefer, it’s because that’s exactly what they are doing.

  • More arrest warrants have been issued in Aurora for the people involved in the viral video from the apartment complex housing Venezuelan criminal gang members.

  • If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.

Here are some upcoming meetings in the area. We hope you can attend one or more! If there are other public meetings you’d like to see announced here, please drop us a line. We are happy to include them in an upcoming newsletter. These might be government-related, candidate, or elected official meetings. Thanks!

If you have a tip about a story in the Pikes Peak region that you aren’t seeing reported, let us know. We will see what we can find out.
