Westchester County Update
New York State Update
New Yorkers have worked hard to contain the spread of the virus and their tireless efforts are being proven more and more successful every day.

New Yorkers are continuing to beat back COVID every day and as the numbers keep going down, we are able to get our economy back up and running and move our state into the future. Our 7-day average continues its decline and the positivity rate in every region is below 1.50 percent—the first time that's happened since September 25. Our priority remains getting more people vaccinated. You can help by talking to friends, family and neighbors and pointing them to resources so that they can get all their questions answered.

Schools will reopen for full in-person learning this September. Based on the current COVID trajectory, all New York State schools will reopen for full in-person learning for the 2021-2022 school year. There is no substitute for in-person learning and as things currently stand, there is no reason why our students should not get back to in-person learning as usual.

Get a shot to make your future. New Yorkers age 12 to 17 who get vaccinated (or already have gotten vaccinated) can enter for a chance to win a 4-year full-ride scholarship to any public college or university in New York State. Fifty total winners will be chosen at five random drawings. The scholarship includes full tuition, room and board, as well as an allowance for books and supplies. Parents can learn more here: ny.gov/vaccinescholarship.

Reminder that New Yorkers are entitled to a paid sick day if they need a day to recover after getting the COVID-19 vaccine. The New York State Department of Labor is issuing guidance to all employers that any necessary recovery period from the COVID-19 vaccine is covered by New York's Paid Sick Leave Law. This builds on legislation granting public and private employees time off to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

The pop-up vaccination sites at Grand Central Terminal and Penn Station will be extended for another week. New Yorkers can get a free seven-day MetroCard or a free round-trip Long Island Rail Road or Metro-North ticket after receiving the vaccine at these pop-up sites.

The Saratoga Race Course will reopen to fans on July 15. In conjunction with the New York Racing Association, today we announced that Saratoga Race Course will reopen to fans at near full capacity when the 2021 summer meet begins on July 15. In addition, all fans who show proof of vaccination through Excelsior Pass, or alternate forms of proof, will receive free grandstand general admission.

The application for rental assistance opened yestrday. The State will provide $3.5 billion in assistance for renters and small businesses experiencing financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Applications for the program will be accepted starting June 1 for eligible New Yorkers who are behind on their rent and have suffered financial hardship due to COVID-19. The New York State Emergency Rental Assistance Program will provide assistance with up to 12 months of past-due rent, three months of prospective rental assistance and 12 months of utility arrears payments to eligible New Yorkers, regardless of immigration status.

New York's 'Vax & Scratch' program has been extended through June 4. Get vaccinated at any of 10 state vaccination sites and receive a free NYS Lottery scratch off ticket with a grand prize of $5 million. Must be 18 or older to participate. Learn more.

The midnight curfew on indoor dining is now lifted. During the month of May NYS took major steps towards reopening our economy and as of May 31, we have lifted the midnight curfew on indoor dining for bars and restaurants across New York.
