First Ever Wellness Conference a Huge Success; On-Demand Access Now Available

We’re excited to share that the Updates on Wellness for Your Medical Practice Conference — our first ever conference focused on wellness — was a smashing success!

Thank you to Dr. Elizabeth Swenor, Dr. Melissa Sundermann, Dr. Christina Lucas-Vougiouklakis, and Dr. Aarthi Chandarana (pictured above) and Dr. Kristin Artz, Dr. Virginia Skiba and Dr. Joel Kahn for presenting on actionable wellness approaches and practices that focused on bringing the concept of general wellness into our practice with an emphasis on lifestyle medicine in Michigan.

Here are some rave reviews about the conference:

“The joint MOA & MSMS CME program on health and wellness was amazing! It was well put together with great topics, all succinctly tied to a comprehensive Functional Medicine program and ways to build and expand your own program. Even if you’re not engaged in practicing functional medicine, it was full of amazing facts and practices to improve your own personal health and wellness, in addition to that of your patients. I haven’t attended a recent CME event more impactful than this one! If you weren’t able to attend in person, check out the program on-line—it’s definitely worth the time and effort!”

-- Emily Hurst, D.O., MOA President

“As a busy resident juggling the challenge of time for a healthy work-life balance, prioritizing wellness can easily fall by the wayside. The MOA’s Updates on Wellness for Your Practice phenomenally educates how implementing the principles of lifestyle medicine in your day-to-day life optimizes physician well-being and the extraordinary impact practicing these concepts on your patients connects their mind, body, and spirit to prevent and reverse chronic disease.”

-- John Italiano, D.O., Family Medicine Resident, PGY3

Kovala Family Offers Scholarship to Help Medical Students Reach Their Goals

The Kovala Family is proud to present an endowed scholarship to a Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine student who demonstrates financial need, was raised in Michigan, and who has had previous work experience in a hospital or medical setting prior to medical school.

Chad M. Kovala, D.O., FACOEP, FACEP and Melissa M. Kovala, CRNA, MS, BSN, along with their children Avery and Owen, would like to offer this scholarship to help a medical student fulfill their dream of becoming a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.

Chad M. Kovala, a board certified osteopathic emergency medicine physician, began his medical career as a volunteer in the emergency department and then worked as an Emergency Room Technician prior to his medical school training and ultimate graduation in 2009 from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Melissa M. Kovala began her medical career as a Patient Care Technician and then a critical care Registered Nurse, prior to her graduate training in Nurse Anesthesia. Since early in their careers, both Chad and Melissa have dedicated their time caring for those with medical needs. They hope this endowment can help many more students reach similar goals.
