Week of August 11, 2024 | Issue: 640
We have a change of plans for Sunday, August 18. Instead of meeting in Social Hall for a potluck brunch, we’ll be in the sanctuary for more of a regular Sunday. The bad news…no food (besides the usual coffee hour fare), but the good news is you’re off the hook for bringing a potluck item! We will still be praying for students and teachers headed back to school and thinking about how we can be a blessing to the children and youth of our community.

Do you have a poem, original or otherwise, that speaks to your life of faith, brings joy or peace, or makes you feel hopeful in troubled times? On Aug. 25 we'll share poetry, pray for one another and our world, and listen to beautiful music from Shira Kammen. If you would like to read a poem, or submit a poem to be read by someone else, please email Pastor Jen.
Respite for Caretakers - Volunteers Needed!
The ACC Care Team has been considering the needs of our community and ways we can support one another. One need that has come up in our community is respite care. “Respite” is a short period of rest or relief, and it can be a huge help for people who are acting as long term caretakers. Lisa and Ed Chilton are currently in a time when this kind of help would be greatly appreciated. What we’re looking for is volunteers from ACC who would be willing to spend time with Ed, keeping him company while Lisa gets some much needed respite. There are no nursing or bathroom needs, this would just be sitting together, chatting, watching tv or the neighbors passing by, being with him so he’s not alone. Volunteers will select a week when you have some availability, then coordinate with Lisa one day and time to come for 2-3 hours during that week. We’ll set it up kind of like a Meal Train, and we’re hoping to cover about 6-8 weeks. If you think you might be able to help, but you have questions, feel free to contact Lisa.
Our summer is full of special Sundays in all kinds of flavors, some contemplative, some justice-oriented, some relaxed and great for the inviting grandkids. Check out our list of summer Sundays below and mark your calendars for the ones you don’t want to miss!
Yoga & Meditation in July & August

All you need for yoga is a mat or a large towel (if you happen to have blocks, a strap, or a blanket, bring them along, but those are all optional), and for meditation you don’t need anything at all!
