ARCHERY TEAM AT NATIONALS

Alandra Deardorf

Trevor Welt

Following a stellar fifth-place finish at the state tournament, the Roncalli archery team traveled to the national competition in May, where they delivered their strongest performance of the year. Competing against the best programs in the country, the Royals posted a season-high team score to place 202nd out of 262 teams.

Individually, two freshmen stole the spotlight with standout performances:

  • Alandra Deardorf shot a personal best to finish in the top 5% nationwide, placing 131st out of 2,697 competitors in the girls' division.
  • Trevor Welt also excelled on the national stage, placing in the top 8% by finishing 202nd out of 2,528 high school boys.

ROYAL CHEERLEADERS

During the second week of July, our Roncalli Cheerleaders participated in a three-day UCA cheer camp at Purdue University, the largest cheer camp in Indiana this year! They took 49 girls and five coaches. It's always a very fast-paced, informational and energy-filled experience!

There were 11 schools around the state of Indiana that participated and a total of 54 cheerleading squads, including freshman, junior varsity, small varsity, medium varsity and large varsity divisions. Roncalli competed against Valparaiso, McCutcheon, Lafayette Jeff, Portage, Harrison and Twin Lakes, among others.

All squads brought home hardware! Roncalli cheer squads earned six blue ribbons in the sideline, cheer and camp routine evaluations and took home a total of six spirit sticks!

The varsity squad placed first in the chant and camp routine categories, along with the best performance trophy!

The JV squad placed third in the chant category and second in the camp routine,

and the freshman squad earned second in the cheer and camp routine!

Roncalli also had cheerleaders participate in All-American, where, if chosen, they are invited to participate in special events around the world. Participants tryout for the All-American squad with solo jumps, dance and a cheer.

Our All-American Cheerleaders who were chosen were (left to right) Lucy Elsener, Gretchen Lee, Maddie Lauck, Alana Hawkins, Anna Wagner, Lexi Dunscomb, Jahna Cardenas, Audrey Purdy, Hailey Engel, Sara Teipen and Isabella McQuillan.

Roncalli also had cheerleaders honored with the Pin it Forward Award that recognizes standout cheerleaders who portray leadership, spirit, commitment, kindness and motivation.

RHS winners were (left to right) Lily Slaymon, Lucy Elsener, Olivia Antolin, Jahna Cardenas, Bridget Lehner, Audrey Purdy and Kaelynn De La Cruz.

Roncalli had three finalists in the jump off competition. Congrats to Alana Hawkins, Ana Rayman and Louisa Matis!

Five Roncalli coaches were credentialed during camp.

Also, Roncalli won the St. Jude spirit stick for reaching out to the most people to help raise money for the St. Jude Hospital after sending almost 500 letters out!

Cheer coach Jessica (Keller) Engel R'99 said, "Everyone worked so hard, and persisted with grace, laughter and even some tears! I am so proud of these ladies! It's been a couple years since we've come out with the top award! We are excited for this year!"

SCHOOL PICTURES
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

Inter-State Studios will be at Roncalli on the first day of school to take student portraits. All underclassmen will be photographed along with any seniors who did not get their portrait taken in May. This photo will be used in the yearbook even if you do not order photos. Freshmen, sophomores and junior students can be out of uniform. (Allowed: uniform style pants, jeans, sweatpants and joggers. Not allowed: pajama pants, yoga pants, leggings or shorts. All tops must also be modest with shoulders covered, no holes with skin showing and no exposed midsections—crop tops are not allowed.)

To purchase portraits for underclass students (grades 9-11),

visit Inter-State.com and enter the order code 0474PR or use

inter-state.com/flyerentry/0474PR.

For seniors who did not get their senior portraits taken in May, they may dress up and have their senior portrait taken. If they did get their picture taken in May, they will need to be in school uniform on the first day of school.
