Los Gatos Hills Apple Harvest
Historic Pear Orchard Photos

Almost fall, and time to pick apples!

On Sunday September 27 we're harvesting a small apple orchard with 14 vintage trees in the hills above Los Gatos, a redwood-shaded spot the current owner calls "her acre of heaven." We'll pick these Golden Delicious and Red Delicious trees to help people in the community, and we'll have a great time, too.

Please submit your sign up request within the next 24 hours; details and the sign up link are below. This is a medum-sized harvest with a maximum of 2 people in a party (so we can include more parties) and minimum age 12 with parent, 16 without.

We're usually able to arrange several apple orchard harvests in September, but this year the crop size was small and at this time this is the only orchard harvest we're planning this month. Nature determines what we have available to pick and share.

We held a fun and productive harvest in August at a historic orchard outside of Cupertino with 120 year old fruit trees located in a secluded canyon. Enjoy a few photos below, including a picture of the "painted ladies" doors on the farmhouse from its time as a speakeasy (illegal bar) during Prohibition 100 years ago.

Thanks for helping the community through Village Harvest.

Los Gatos Hills Apple Orchard Harvest

Los Gatos Hills apple trees and redwoodsThis month we return to the hills above Los Gatos where apple and pear orchards planted in the early 1900s have been preserved by generations. This month's harvest features a hillside orchard of 14 apple trees surrounded by tall redwoods.

Sign up for this harvest through the link in the table or on the Events calendar.
  • This event will be kept open for sign up requests for a minimum of 24 hours.
  • Sign ups are not first-come-first-served. Depending on the number of sign ups we may select volunteers by lottery or by who haven't been able to get into a harvest most recently or are waiting the longest to get into their first harvest. (Volunteer FAQ).
  • Because we expect the event to be popular we're limited the maximum number per party to 2 volunteers so more parties can come - sorry!
  • We're harvesting the fruit to help people in need in the community, but they'll be fruit seconds for volunteers to take home and enjoy.

Historic Cupertino Pear Orchard Harvest

These photos are of an historic orchard outside of Cupertino, with 120 year old pear trees in a hidden valley that's now protected by the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District. 25 volunteers harvested these hardy vintage trees in August, and a total of 467 pounds of Bartlett pears were donated to Second Harvest Silicon Valley to assist local families. These century-old trees still produce fruit to benefit people today.
