A homestead in the late 1700's, the recently protected farm once included a stage stop, tavern, and log cabins that served as an inn on the Wilderness Trail. Along with the conservation of the land, the remaining historic buildings will now be protected into the future! Not only is this farm an important part of Kentucky history, it has been awarded the designation of a Kentucky Bicentennial Farm, having been continuously owned and farmed for over 200 years.
In addition to its unique history, the working farm is located in a Certified Agricultural District, and its conservation ensures the protection of prime farmland and soils of statewide importance. It features nearly one quarter mile of scenic road frontage, and is in a sensitive groundwater region. The conservation of the farm also protects significant water resources including riverine and palustrine wetlands and over 1 mile of Coes Creek, a tributary to Mill Creek, along with the headwaters of Cox Creek and West Simpson Creek.
