July 2023

Hola Women Against Abuse Familia,

Disability Pride Month is happening now! As we celebrate disability pride and progress in Philadelphia and across the United States, we also call for improved access to safety, empowerment and justice for survivors of abuse with disabilities. 70% of disabled people experience abuse and are three times more likely to experience sexual violence.

Survivors with disabilities deserve to live free from abuse and be treated with respect when they seek help, like Alyssa, who navigated many barriers to safety and independence for both herself and her son as she broke free from an abusive relationship.

This month, I'm eager to introduce you to our new Vice President of Advancement, and I hope you'll take advantage of some fun new ways to get involved and support our life-saving services.

En solidaridad,

Meet Beth Vogel!

A life-long Philadelphian with a passion for service, Beth came to Women Against Abuse earlier this month as our new Vice President of Advancement, bringing over 20 years of development and communications experience.

"I was a hotline counselor [for the Philadelphia Domestic Violence Hotline], so this feels like a coming home of sorts...I want people to know that I am honored and feel privileged to be able to lead the Advancement department."

In a new interview, we asked Beth about her life, her career, her passions and what she's most looking forward to in her new role.
