SI COAD Vaccine Access and Education Microgrant Application
The Staten Island Community Organizations Active in Disaster (SI COAD), a coalition managed by the Nonprofit Staten Island (formerly SINFPA), aims to provide microgrants ranging from $500-1000 to partners of our borough-wide COAD/MES Coalition. This program is made possible through our partnership with New York Community Engagement Alliance (NYCEAL) who is providing funding for our microgrants. To be considered, applicants must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Interested organizations may complete the application below to be considered as a recipient for SI COAD's Microgrant Program. The intent of this program is to strengthen our SI COAD / MES Coalition's efforts in vaccine access, education, and equity on Staten Island, to address vaccine hesitancy, and to improve vaccine confidence. All awardees must have a focus on COVID-19 vaccine adoption within Staten Island communities, although we will fund organizations that tie in additional vaccination efforts (e.g. MPOX, flu, etc.). Microgrants will fund projects or initiatives that advance vaccination efforts and/or measurably improve vaccine rates within our communities. A brief paragraph-sized report and a SI COAD General Meeting community share out or video testimonial is expected upon completion of your organizations project/initiative.
If you have any questions about the microgrant please reach out to frank@sinfpa.org
for more information.

Mental Health and Climate Change Campaigns
SI COAD is launching two new public awareness campaigns to build awareness and provide information and resources surrounding mental health and the symptoms of climate change and weather related disasters. These campaigns will each live on nonprofitstatenisland.org on their own respective webpages and will include email blasts/social media posts with resources, trainings, and information sharing. All SI COAD coalition partners and Nonprofit Staten Island members are encouraged to share resources as we aggregate and organize for Staten Island.

Respiratory Hygiene During the Holidays
Please be reminded that we are currently experiencing an uptick in COVID-19 cases, and that there is a new dominant variant in our region (XBB.1.5), which is a subvariant of Omicron. This new dominant variant has been dubbed by the World Health Organization as the "most transmissible" detected yet, but has yet to be identified as more or less severe in comparison to other variants. Continued mask wearing, social distancing, hand washing, frequent testing, and of course staying up to date with vaccinations - especially the bivalent booster - is all advised to ensure the best possible protection.
As a reminder, SI COAD provides PPE and test kits to all who are interested. We offer KN95, N95, rapid test kits, hand sanitizer, and disinfectant wipes. Please email frank@sinfpa.org directly with inquiries. We can provide large and small allotments.

Report at Home Covid Testing
COVID-19 testing remains an essential tool as the United States heads into the holiday season and people navigate respiratory viruses. While taking a rapid COVID-19 test has become commonplace, test results are not often reported. COVID-19 test results provide valuable data that public health departments can use to assess the needs and modify the responses in the local community, the state or the nation.
Please circulate and utilize an important resource established by the National Institute of Health to help track COVID-19 cases HERE.

MPV Vaccination
SI COAD Partner Super Health Pharmacy now has the MPV vaccine. If you’re concerned that you’re at risk of catching MPV (aka Monkeypox) consider stopping by and getting an MPV vaccine!
Staten Islanders have a dedicated MPV helpline operated by Project Hospitality. Anyone can call 718-608-7900 to learn more about symptoms, prevention, and first and second dose vaccine appointments.
Eligibility has been expanded! Now anyone of any sexual orientation or gender identity who is at risk for MPV can get vaccinated.
There are first and second dose appointments available. All City-run sites also accept walk-ins. You should get a second dose at least 28 days after your first dose.

Governor Hochul Announces Availability of $16 Million to Develop Supportive Housing
Request for Proposals Issued to Add 500 Scattered-Site Supportive Housing Units for People Experiencing Homelessness in New York City
New Units with Supportive Services Will Be Available for People Living with Mental Illness on the Streets or in the Subway System
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the availability of up to $16 million in annual state funding to operate scattered-site housing with support services for people who are experiencing homelessness on the street and in the subway system in New York City. Administered by the state Office of Mental Health, the funding will help develop 500 additional units of supportive housing, which will then take referrals from the city's Safe Options Support teams.
"Now more than ever, we need to invest in our mental health care system and boost treatment services for New Yorkers who lack stable housing," Governor Hochul said. "These units will provide both a safe home for unhoused New Yorkers as well as supportive services, ensuring the most vulnerable among us have the resources needed to bring stability to their lives."
Office of Mental Health Commissioner Dr. Ann Sullivan said, "Individuals living with mental illness, like all of us, need a safe place to live in a supportive environment. These supportive housing units will provide that safe environment and the services needed for each person to move forward in their recovery. Housing in the community is critical to enable someone living with mental illness to live a full and productive life."
Scattered-site supportive housing is integrated housing that consists of apartments located in multiple buildings throughout the community, with each connected to community-based support services based on the needs of the resident. The goal is to place unhoused individuals into a setting where they can live in an independent setting and fully integrate into their communities. The funding is provided by Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI).
The scattered site units will complement the work underway by the Safe Options Support teams, which work with individuals who have a history of mental illness and/or substance use disorder. These multidisciplinary teams have enrolled 554 unhoused people into Critical Time Intervention services, placing 176 of them into temporary housing. Housing staff will encourage and assist residents to develop community supports, use community resources, and pursue an individualized path towards recovery.
Applicants must develop at least 15 units and may apply for funding to operate up to 60 units. The request for proposals sets a Jan. 30 deadline for submissions.

Cause Effective Fellows Program: Advancing Leaders of Color in Fundraising
The Cause Effective Fellows Program arose from Cause Effective’s “Money, Power and Race: The Lived Experience of Fundraisers of Color” report (2018), which reflects participants’ experience that while diversity matters in the nonprofit sector, people of color need to be skilled not only with fundraising acumen, but also have the awareness and tools to navigate the intersectional dynamics of power, race and class that are endemic to fundraising encounters. The program is designed for mid-career Development Directors who self-identify as a person of color across various spectrums of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual identity, ability, and socio-economic class, to build their capacity as fundraising professionals and develop their leadership within the organizations they serve.
This program has a $10,000 value but is provided at a lower cost of $5,000 to participants. Scholarships are available to grantees of select funder groups, including The New York Community trust and Altman Foundation.
In addition, subsidies are available for organizations based on a sliding scale aligned to organizational budget.
Before beginning your application, please review the following regarding your candidacy:
1. This program requires full commitment from participants and a statement of support from their Executive Directors. You can download a copy of the required statement of support here.
2. Programming will occur during the following dates and times. We highly encourage applicants to schedule these dates into their calendar in the event they are accepted into the program:
- February 8, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- March 15, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- April 5, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- May 17, 2023 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- June 14, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- June 28, 2023* from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
*Please note that the session on June 28th is intended for Directors of Development and Executive Directors.
3. All programming, unless otherwise noted, will take place virtually through Zoom, and a recurring link will be provided to you prior to each session.
