MAYOR'S UPDATE

From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin

Taking a much-needed vacation is made even more relaxing, knowing that capable colleagues are stepping in while you're away.

Here are some of the exciting events that took place this past weekend:

Friday – Deputy Mayor Omar Lopez and Historian Joyce Sharrock Cole represented the Village at the annual Juneteenth Flag Raising in Market Square, organized by the Juneteenth Council. This significant event involves raising the unique Juneteenth flag, which symbolizes the end of slavery in the United States, freedom, new beginnings, and the journey toward full equality. To learn more, be sure to stop by Bethany Arts Community on June 19th between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM to enjoy the Juneteenth Celebration & Concert. The event will feature a variety of art, exhibits, performances, and traditional delicacies, providing a rich cultural experience for all attendees.

Saturday- Trustee Dana White with Village Historian Joyce Sharrock Cole represented the Village at the Jug Tavern in celebrating the life of Captain Lewis Brady with a telling of his story, a walking tour of his home/neighborhood, and a visit to Sparta Cemetery to see his final resting place. This moving event was capped off with an Honorary Street Naming of Rockledge and Revolutionary Roads as Captain Lewis Brady Way. Sunday – Trustee Dana White once again represented the Village - one of my absolute favorite Ossining events: Troop 49’s Eagle Scouts Court of Honor Ceremony.

Congratulations to Benjamin Sankar & Bryan Heindl!

The 2025 Portugal Day Festival is coming this weekend - this year, it will be held at St. Ann’s Church. Enjoy the celebration with music, vendors, and, of course, fantastic food!

Please be respectful of the neighbors living in this area by following Village parking, environmental, and sound ordinances.

Did you see that Hudson River Music Festival has announced that Grammy Award-winning folk musician and activist Tom Chapin and The Chapin Sisters will join the festival lineup set for Saturday, June 14, from 11:00am-9:00pm in Croton Point Park? Just another fun event taking place on the Hudson!

Tickets are on sale now. To purchase tickets, view transportation options, and more, visit www.hudsonrivermusicfestival.com.

The Town and Village of Ossining participate in a community energy program called Westchester Power, which makes clean and renewable electricity easily accessible for residents and small businesses. The program is administered by local non-profit Sustainable Westchester on behalf of participating communities. I invite all residents and business owners to attend this session to learn more about how the program works and about future rate changes this Winter.

Don't miss this chance to get informed and ask questions!

This week’s meeting will be held at 16 Croton and will begin at 7:30PM on Wednesday, June 11th, 2025.

The Work Session agenda will be as follows:

  • Valerie Monastra, AICP- Principal Planner- Nelson Pope Voorhis will join us for our first 2 agenda items—one on the proposed zoning change for the Riverfront Development District (RDD) (as advised by the Comprehensive Plan) and another on proposed zoning changes for cannabis dispensaries in the Village.
  • Corporation Counsel Stuart Kahan will take the lead on the next two agenda items: one pertaining to a Special Permit for T Mobile for 56 Browning Drive (the water tower), the other regarding a request from the owners of 195 Main Street for a license agreement to allocate Village parking lot area as dedicated parking spaces.
  • Maddi Zachacz, Assistant Village Manager, will then walk the BOT through the draft resolution that would signal permission for the LOSAP ballot item in November, as well as the proposed Points system that has recently been revised by OFD.
  • Finally, the Mayor and the Manager’s Office will lead a discussion about a potential engagement with CiviSocial. This vendor will help us reach the community more effectively and convey important messaging through social media.
