Dear AltaMed Employees,

Employees, who will be celebrating Halloween and choose to dress in costume as part of the festivities, are required to adhere to the following guidelines to ensure appropriate standards are maintained for a professional environment.

Although we encourage employees to enjoy the day and demonstrate their creative side, it's important to maintain our Standards of Behavior to ensure the quality of care and service to our patients, visitors, and colleagues is not compromised. These additional guidelines are in line with the standard Dress Code/Personal Appearance Policy.

Avoid the following:
  • Inappropriate items, such as sweats or pajama-style clothing
  • Revealing costumes:
  • Including tank tops, low neckline tops, halter or mid-riff tops
  • Miniskirts, shorts, dresses, or spandex bottoms; all dresses or skirts must be no more than three inches above the knee
  • No backless, braless, see-through, spaghetti-string or strapless attire
  • No open-toed shoes in locations where patients are treated or where such apparel could pose a safety hazard for the employee
  • Clothing or accessory items containing writing or images that could be considered a violation of the harassment, discrimination, or solicitation policy; or that includes any profanity
  • Large or obtrusive props that could pose a safety hazard

Follow these standard requirements:
  • Wear required PPE for your position – a Halloween mask is not a replacement for a surgical face mask or protective eye covering
  • Wearing of costume(s):
  • Cannot interfere with the safe performance of assigned job duties
  • Cannot create infection control risks as it/they could become contaminated during patient care if not adequately covered
  • Face painting:
  • Should not be done during work hours
  • Should not interfere with the safe performance of assigned job duties
  • Should adhere to Infection Control standards
  •  Display your employee badge at all times

Please review your costume with your immediate Supervisor before wearing it to ensure its adherence to the above guidelines. In the event management deems the employee's attire may cause a potential safety hazard or is inappropriate to the work environment, they will notify the employee – this may include sending the employee home to change. In this case, the employee will be expected to clock out and will not be compensated for the time they miss. Repeated violations may subject the employee to disciplinary action.

Should you have any questions, please contact your Supervisor or Human Resources Business Partner.

Thank you,
