LAST DAY TO DONATE TO THE LAGUNA FOOD DRIVE IS TOMORROW, 12/16!
|
|
This week, Laguna's Foodbank Club has been hosting a FOOD DRIVE at Laguna's Hope Ranch campus! There is one more day to bring in long shelf-life foods to donate to people in need. The most needed foods are peanut butter, canned goods, rice, and pasta.
The food drive is meant to help kids, families, and elderly in Santa Barbara County who otherwise could go hungry. Each food item brought in translates to multiple meals for people in need, so every item helps!
For Middle School students, please put your bags of food into the labeled boxes at the middle school pick-up and drop-off area.
For Upper School students, there is a box outside of each Birdhouse's meeting spot. Upper School birdhouses are competing against each other for birdhouse points, and the winning birdhouse at the end of the year gets a trip to Zodos—so bring those cans!

ABOUT THE PLAY
15-year-old Christopher has an extraordinary brain. He is exceptional at mathematics but ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched, and he distrusts strangers. Now it is 7 minutes after midnight, and Christopher stands beside his neighbor’s slain dog, Wellington. Finding himself under suspicion, Christopher is determined to solve the mystery of who murdered Wellington, and he carefully records each fact of the crime. But his detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a thrilling journey that upturns his world.
Winner of the 2015 Tony Award for Best Play. “This adaptation by the acclaimed playwright Simon Stephens is intensely, innately theatrical; it is also funny and extremely moving…resonates with quality.” — Telegraph (London). “…just terrific…a profoundly moving play about adolescence, fractured families, mathematics, colours and lights…dazzling.” — Independent (London). “A beautiful, eloquent, dazzlingly inventive show about the wonders of life.” — Evening Standard (London).

EIGHTH GRADERS RACE SOLAR MARTIAN ROVERS
|
|
Solar Martian Rovers are the eighth graders' first engineering challenge of the year. The rovers serve as a foundation for students to better understand linear motion, forces, and experimental design, with a focus on design thinking. Using solar panels and a combination of gear, pulleys, and/or direct drive, students build a rover that will be tested for speed, durability, and aesthetics.
Yesterday, the students put their rovers to the test in an exciting grade-wide race on the tennis courts!

Today we celebrated two members of the Class of 2023: Abby Kim and Kincade Avery, who made commitments to compete at the NCAA Division III level next year.
Abby was offered a roster spot on the Women’s Golf Team at Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts, and was recently accepted via the early decision process. Kincade accepted an offer to play Men’s Volleyball at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, making the commitment in early December.
Laguna Blanca is very proud to see these two remarkable student-athletes continue the excellence they delivered as Owls. Congratulations Abby and Kincade! Go Mammoths! Go Raptors! And, GO OWLS!
