Historical Tidbit:
Timothy Jones House

The house was built by Timothy Jones, a third generation member of one of the most prominent families at the time. The Jones family was a major force behind the establishment of Raynham in 1731.

This is the oldest existing saltbox house in Raynham, at 275 - 300 years old. Most historical records date the house either 1692 or 1700, but a few say it was probably built in the early 1700s. It is a saltbox style of wooden peg construction, with walls that are double thick and clapboards on front and white cedar shingles elsewhere over the original shingles.

Located at 355 Pleasant St, the house was originally a private residence and it is again now. It has been a storage house, shoe factory, a moonshine manufactory, a source of timber from its many acres, and a tenant house.

CAST Week: Donna Riendeau

Donna Riendeau, a retired teacher from Raynham schools, recently gave a presentation to group of fourth graders at Dr. E Joseph Laliberte Elementary School. She spoke about her experience during her teaching days and the transformation of local schools. Her narrative then took an exciting turn as she delved into her past. As a child, she moved frequently due to her father’s Navy career before settling in Massachusetts.
For CAST Week ( Children and Seniors Together) Raynham Public Schools benefited from the story -telling of area seniors, sharing their life stories.
Donna highlighted a moment she in fourth grade where she learned that a classmate’s father was one of the first astronauts selected to go to space. This revelation ignited her lifelong interest in space exploration. She shared fascinating details about early space missions and how Alan Shepard and Walter Schirra made history. These pioneers traveled in small, cramped capsules which would land in the ocean, where Navy ships, including the one her father served on, would retrieve them.

Donna compared the day-to-day life of past astronauts in space with those of current ones, providing a picture of how space exploration has evolved. Overall, Dionna gave an engaging session that captivated the fourth graders with a window into the past and inspired a sense of curiosity.

The Bird Serenade
Each morning, through my slightly open window, I wake to the bird serenade...

...a daily reminder of these delicate beings that share our earth...their songs both beautiful and powerful.

"A bird does not sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song."
~Chinese Proverb

"Birds sing after a storm; why shouldn’t people feel as free to delight in whatever remains to them?" ~ Rose Kennedy

"Keep a green tree in your heart and perhaps the singing bird will come." ~Lois Lowry

"Wakefulness is not a destination but a song the human heart keeps singing, the way birds keep singing at the first sign of light." ~Mark Nepo
They thrive in the shade trees, they soar through the open skies, they sing their morning song ... so small, so frail.. proving even the smallest can have a tremendous impact in this world; especially when there are many.
Bee Well, Jacquie
