Visit Rwanda's Big Five
and Central Africa's Largest Wetland
Greetings from Kigali!

In this month's newsletter we are featuring Akagera National Park, home to the Big Five and the largest protected wetland area in Central Africa. Managed by African Parks, Akagera has become a sanctuary for savannah-adapted wildlife. Located in the eastern province of Rwanda, Akagera borders Tanzania and is only a 2.5 hour drive from Kigali, or a 25 minute helicopter flight from the capital.

TOP FIVE REASONS TO VISIT AKAGERA
  1. The park includes some of the most scenic savannah in East Africa, including open plains, woodlands, lakes, swamp and grassy low mountains
  2. There are no traffic jams with 4x4 vehicles full of people vying for a spot to catch a glimpse of wildlife, like in the Serengeti or Maasai Mara
  3. Akagera's wildlife population is flourishing, thanks to African Parks, a non-profit conservation organisation managing 20 national parks and protected areas in 11 countries
  4. With lions reintroduced in 2015 followed by black rhinos in 2017 & 2019 and white rhinos in 2021, the park is home to the Big Five and also boasts one of Africa's highest hippo and crocodile densities
  5. The park offers a great selection of activities including day and night game drives, boat cruises, hot air balloon safaris, community projects, and special behind the scenes access to the park's management team to learn about conservation initiatives
