Message From the Editor

By: Rod Firoozye, AAML Newsletter Editor

With Labor Day behind us, the unofficial end of summer has arrived. As children return to school and routines resume, many of us begin addressing unfinished matters that may need resolution before year-end.

In that spirit, this month we’re focusing on estate planning within the context of family law.

We’ve observed that many clients either postpone estate planning or overlook how an older estate plan might influence current family law proceedings. Estate planning can also serve as a strategic tool for asset protection — even in the absence of a prenuptial agreement. For family law attorneys representing the out-spouse, understanding the estate planning strategies employed by the other party can be critical.

We look forward to sharing insightful articles on this topic this month, and we hope to feature another expert interview to deepen the discussion.

Looking ahead to October, we’ll be exploring the concept of trauma-informed practice in family law.

If you’re interested in contributing an article on this upcoming topic, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you,

Rod Firoozye
