Happy National Volunteer Month

to our Amazing Volunteers!

Volunteer Spotlight:

Tom and Ann Gibbs

April is National Volunteer Appreciation Month, and we’re celebrating the incredible volunteers who make SCC such a special community! This month, we’re shining a spotlight on Tom and Ann Gibbs, a dedicated duo who generously give their time to support our members.

Here’s what they had to say about why they love volunteering with SCC:

"After watching our parents struggle with transportation when they were no longer able to drive, we recognized the value of the SCC efforts to meet this need and have volunteered as drivers for a year.

What we didn’t initially realize was how much fun WE would have getting to know these neighbors as we drove them. During our trips, we’ve met world travelers, military veterans, accomplished medical professionals, skilled tennis players, lifetime locals and those from afar. Though these rides were arranged to benefit those seniors, we’ve learned so much from them and now consider many of them to be friends.

Volunteering is flexible and allows us to offer rides that meet our own schedules, too. For anyone who is interested in participating in a gratifying opportunity to help your community, we encourage you to join us in the fun!"

Thank you to Tom, Ann and all of our amazing volunteers, for your kindness and commitment! We are so grateful for the impact you make in our community. 💙

Welcome to our newest volunteers!

Our members are thrilled and look forward to meeting you.

" Since I have joined SCC I have more of a feeling of independence. I am so very happy with the service that the wonderful volunteers provide for me. Nicole (Volunteer Coordinator) is doing a fantastic job and getting us where we need to go."

Shamrock Stroll – A Lucky Success! ☘️

What a fantastic day we had at the Shamrock Festival & Stroll on March 15! 🌈💚 From festive fun to great conversations, it was wonderful to see so many members of the community come together to celebrate. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, volunteered, or helped make this event special!

Whether you were strolling in green, enjoying the festivities, or simply connecting with friends, we hope you felt the luck of the Irish and the warmth of our amazing community.

SENIOR LIVING

🤣 Aging with a Smile:

Because Wrinkles Look Better When You’re Laughing!

Aging is a journey best traveled with a hearty laugh! Embracing the lighter side of growing older can make the ride all the more enjoyable. Here are some classic one-liners to keep you smiling:

  • "I don't want to achieve immortality through my work... I want to achieve it through not dying." — Woody Allen

  • "I've learned that life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes." — Andy Rooney

  • "I'm at an age when my back goes out more than I do." — Phyllis Diller

  • "You know you're getting old when the candles cost more than the cake." — Bob Hope

  • "By the time a man is wise enough to watch his step, he's too old to go anywhere." — Billy Crystal

Remember, a good chuckle not only lifts the spirits but might just keep you feeling younger at heart. So, let's keep laughing together as we navigate the golden years!
