LE: U.S. Hotel Construction Hits "Historic" Levels
Hotel, Tourism Leaders Launch "Stay With LA"
U.S. RevPAR -0.2% y/y last week; Tough comp with MLK holiday calendar shift.
As Truist Securities wrote, “Overall U.S. RevPAR was -0.2% y/y for the week ending 1/25/2025, per STR/CoStar, below the prior week's result of +17.4% y/y and below the trailing 10-week average of +7.0% y/y. Last week's headline results were impacted by the holiday shift of MLK Day (negative, one week later in 2025) and the Inauguration (highly positive to D.C. with RevPAR +87% for the week, almost all ADR, and meaningful to U.S. Luxury chain scale results). Atlanta benefited from the NCAA Football Championship (like D.C., a very large market). We are more convinced of moderate impact from L.A. fires. For the U.S. as a whole, the 2- week average RevPAR was +8.6% y/y. Upscale RevPAR: -4.3% y/y; Upper Midscale RevPAR: -2.9% y/y.”
