As gene drive technology advances as a potential tool for agricultural pest control, understanding how the public views its use, and what values shape those views, is increasingly important for researchers, regulators, and policymakers. Supported by a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA NIFA), Rutgers University, the Agriculture & Food Systems Institute (AFSI), and Newcastle University spent the past several years conducting social science research to provide the foundation for public engagement around agricultural gene drives. On April 15, 2026, this multi-institutional research team will host a virtual workshop to present its findings and facilitate discussion among stakeholders about public attitudes toward gene drives in agriculture and the values that drive those attitudes. |
