Hello, Heart of Virginia! | | | | |
Hammock Camping
Hammock camping is a fun and eco-friendly way to enjoy the outdoors, but safety should always come first. This month's safety moment highlights key tips to help you hang safely—like using tree-friendly straps, checking for dead branches overhead, and keeping your hammock no more than 18 inches off the ground. Hammock camping supports Leave No Trace principles when done properly, making it a great low-impact option. With a little preparation, you can relax in comfort while staying safe at camp.

On the Mic with Mike King Interview
We are thrilled to have spent some time with Mike King talking about the Scouting program here in Central Virginia. Our Executive Director, George McGovern, was joined by our ScoutReach Program Leads, Myron Kidd and Andrew Fortune, and Executive Board Members, Keith Miller and Zane Gibbs. Together, they discussed the purpose and impact of Scouting, our dedication to making the program available to all youth, the pride we feel when we put on our uniforms, and how Scouting is so much more than camping... it's an opportunity to instill real life skills in our youth that they carry with them the rest of their lives.

At Day Camp, Scouts begin to work toward their next rank in the Cub Scout program, and we use the same ranks to identify age groups as your “home pack.” We welcome non-Scout buddies to join in on the fun, as well!
