Instructor Highlights:

At Blaine-Birch Bay Park and Recreation District #2, we’re fortunate to have knowledgeable group fitness instructors who bring their expertise to every class. We’re excited to highlight two of our current instructors and invite you to check out their classes, and all of our group fitness offerings at BBBPRD2.

Mika Tamaki

Mika has been teaching at the BBBPRD2 for about three years, but yoga and Pilates have been a part of her life since she was in her late teens/early twenties.

Mika's Pilates classes offer mat-based exercises focusing on smaller, precise movements that rely on the back and core muscles for stabilization. This class helps improve core strength, posture, and muscle tone in the glutes, legs, abs, shoulders, arms and back. It also promotes better circulation, increased energy and focus, aligns the spine, and can reduce low back pain.

Mika is bilingual in Japanese and English and travels to Japan (where she used to live) with her husband Koji once or twice a year. In her free time she loves to walk, run, and hike outside, make and/or eat yummy vegan food, read or listen to audiobooks, watch movies (Zootopia is her favorite!) and spend time with her two rescue bunnies, Momiji and Yukimaru.

Mika teaches Pilates at 5:45 p.m. Tuesdays at the Birch Bay Activity Center, 7511 Gemini St., $5 drop-in.

Kelsey Baldwin

Kelsey earned her 200-hour yoga teacher certification in 2024 and has been sharing the joy of yoga with the community ever since. She began teaching at BBBPRD2 as a substitute which led her to a regular position on the schedule teaching Level 1 yoga.

Her goal is to make yoga fun, welcoming, and accessible to everyone through thoughtful sequencing and supportive modifications that help students feel strong, confident, and connected to their bodies. In 2026, Kelsey earned her personal training and group fitness certifications through ISSA and is excited to continue expanding her teaching opportunities.

When she’s not teaching, Kelsey enjoys spending time outdoors—gardening, camping, or soaking up a perfect beach day with her family and dog.

Kelsey teaches Vinyasa Flow Yoga at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays at the Blaine Pavilion, 635 8th St., $5 drop-in.
