Partners in Housing crafts impact statement

Partners in Housing Board of Directors and staff worked together in 2025 to write an impact statement that encompasses all of the work PIH does in the community.

Impact Statement:

At Partners in Housing, we are dedicated to strengthening the Pikes Peak Region by serving as a steadfast advocate for and provider of affordable housing. Through our innovative programs, we are opening pathways to a brighter future, enabling families and community members to thrive.

Within our Transitional Family Self-Sufficiency Program, we equip families in crisis with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed. From financial literacy and career development to accessing essential local resources, our program fosters healthy living, offering families the space to learn and grow.

Through our Affordable Housing Program, we ensure no one pays more than 30% of their income on housing, shaping the future of the Pikes Peak Region where access to a stable, long-term home serves as the cornerstone for a strong and prosperous community.

Our work supports a lifetime of change for the individuals and families we serve. As a key proponent of affordable housing, we are committed to improving community dynamics, promoting healthcare access, and ultimately building a stronger, more resilient region. Together, we are creating a future where stability, opportunity, and dignity are within reach for all.

Bentley Commons opens for leasing

On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, GPR Properties hosted a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting to present the Bentley Commons Apartments to the Pikes Peak region. The property is located on 7 acres in Southeast Colorado Springs near Hancock and Astrozon. The property’s renovated 24 apartments are joined by the new construction of an additional 168 apartments, a renovated leasing office and clubhouse, and amenities throughout the property.

Construction began in early 2023, with completion of construction on the 6 new buildings coming online from March through September, 2025. Architectural design was customized to the site, brought new amenities to live and play, and complement the existing buildings. Meanwhile, the existing buildings which opened in 2009 were renovated for ADA compliance, all new mechanical rooms and HVAC systems, and had a complete exterior refresh to match the style and aesthetic of the new 2025 buildings. The clubhouse was retro-fitted to be home to on-site leasing, maintenance, a business and computer station and community space, and now boasts of a ‘central park’ outdoor area for recreation, exercise, and playgrounds. Electric vehicle charging stations meet current and future e-vehicle needs.

At a time when hundreds of units are under construction for high-end wager-earners, GPR and Bentley Commons continue to serve individuals and families earning up to 60% of Area Median Income (AMI), with a majority of homes set aside for those at or below 50% of AMI, including:

               60 one-bedrooms, 105 two-bedrooms, and 27 three-bedrooms

               27 units @ 30% AMI, 19 units at 40%, 102 units at 50%, and 44 units @ 60%

28 units dedicated for formerly homeless veterans through the VASH program

Letter from a Partner

In July 2025, a Partner exited the Family Self-Sufficiency Program and chose to write a letter for families beginning their journey to independence. This Partner suffered an abusive relationship with a narcissistic partner. While she was in our program, she saved money to get an apartment, filed for divorce and gained 50/50 custody of her children. She made use of every service we offered even when it was difficult or daunting.

“If you’re anything like me, stepping into this space might come with a swirl of feelings- fear, grief, guilt, maybe a little relief, uncertainty. I want you to know that you are not alone. I was here before you, and I lived a full year of my life within these walls- a year that held some of the hardest moments I’ve ever walked through. But it’s also held the beginning of something new. This home saw it all. It held me while I cried on the kitchen floor. It held my babies as they grew. It held late-night feeds and meltdowns and laughter and growth. It gave me the quiet to hear myself again. It gave me safety. It gave me support I didn’t know I deserved. And slowly- painfully, beautifully- I began to remember who I was before everything got so hard. I remembered I’m strong. I’m capable. I‘m worthy of peace. And now, as I leave, I carry that with me. My daughter told me the other day that this was her favorite home. And I get it. Not because it was perfect- but because it was safe. Because we had each other. Because healing had space to happen here. Take it one day at a time. Let yourself be exactly where you are. Let the people here support you- even if that’s hard. And when it feels like too much, remember: You’re doing something brave. You are showing up for your family. You are already building something better. I’m rooting for you- even if we’ll never meet. You’ve got this.”
