THIS WEEK IN HOUSTON
February 4–8, 2026
This week’s MUSED Houston comes to you from both coasts. I’ll be in Southern California over the weekend for the opening of Chicano Camera Culture: A Photographic History, 1966–2026 at The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture and the Riverside Art Museum where I’m handling public relations, producing a collectors event, and launching the exhibition’s national museum tour. Curated by Elizabeth Ferrer, Chicano Camera Culture includes artists with deep Texas ties; among them, Kathy Vargas, the late Chuck Ramirez, Delilah Montoya (now in New Mexico), and Chuy Benítez (now in Chicago). It’s especially meaningful to see Houston and Texas voices part of a larger national conversation as the exhibition begins its life on the road.
At the same time, my own photographic work is on view here in Houston as part of a satellite exhibition for Age In Our Times, presented by The Health Museum at TMC Helix Park (a new space for art!). My work documents a three-year period in which I photographed myself daily as my hair transitioned from gold to silver – an intimate study of time, visibility, and the quiet markers of aging. The exhibition opens this week and will be on view through March 10.

Back home, the city is alive with artist talks, openings, closings, and community gatherings. Whether you’re carving out time for a midday museum visit, an evening opening, or a long walk by the bayou, Houston offers plenty of ways to show up for art this week.
