The Valentine’s Day Campaign for Police Accountability intends to spread a message of hope. Sign on to let the Peace Economy Project carry your name and message to your legislators!
If the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, and Michael Brown have taught us anything, it is that we need a change to the laws that govern police authority. We are under a system that has ignored abuses of authority for far too long. Police are weaponized for war and treat innocent citizens as enemy combatants. It is time for a change, now!
Sign on to Send Valentine’s Day Cards to Your Representatives
Please, speak for those who have been lost:
Dear ___
I am sending this card on behalf of those lost and injured due to
police violence. We are in need of new police accountability
legislation. Please support H.R. 7137 and other legislation that holds law
enforcement accountable and protects the people they serve.
Sincerely yours,

Stop Police Militarization; Change Police Practices
The cards will be sent with a cover letter that lobbies for the repeal of Section 1033 of the National Defense Authorization Act, the program by the Pentagon which provides surplus military gear to local police departments. Created in the 1990s to fight the War on Drugs, the program is directly responsible for police departments having access to tanks and military-grade weapons that attack protesters. It was racist then and it is racist now.
The campaign also supports H.R. 7137, the Police Reform Act of 2020. H.R. 7137 calls for reforms in policies, training, and new protocols for the investigation and reporting of the use of deadly force.
