Blessing of the Backpacks

On Sunday, August 23 we will have our traditional blessing of the backpacks. All students (and even teachers) are welcome to bring their backpacks for a blessing and a special gift as the school year starts!

Special Music on Sunday, August 30

We have a very special treat as Jeff Krick Jr. will share a few songs at the beginning of worship on Sunday, August 30. Jeff sings Elvis's music professionally and is also a person of faith who shares his songs from that perspective. Pastor Stuart saw him perform and was touched by his presentations of some great hymns of faith. Don’t worry, Jeff won’t be wearing a white jumpsuit and we think you’ll enjoy his great voice and the spirituals that Elvis was famous for singing.

Fall Music Opportunities

Whether you're returning or would like to join us for the first time this fall, St. Paul's ensemble schedules are now available. View them by selecting the links below or by picking up a copy from the table in the narthex. 😊

Kingdom Choir Rehearsal and Anthem Schedule

Free Freezer Available

Social Ministry no longer needs the large freezer in the parsonage, and it is available for free to anyone who wants it. It is in working condition, and they would like to have it moved out by early August if possible. If interested, please contact Jenn Pindle-Lloyd.

Rejoicing Spirits Service

Our next Rejoicing Spirits service will be on Sunday, August 9 at 4:00 pm. This is an informal, inclusive and adapted service open to all in the community, including those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, regardless of faith background. The service includes joyous music, singing and brief, meaningful, pastor-led sermons.

GOOD WORKS YOUTH WORK DAYS will start up again on Saturday, September 26 from 8:15 am to 3:45 pm. Spend a Saturday helping make repairs to homes for people in need in our area. All 7th through 12th graders are welcome to join us; if you're thinking about participating in Appalachia Service Project next summer, this is a great way to get some idea of what that ministry is all about! Sign up here by Wednesday, September 16 to participate: Sept. 26th Good Works Youth Work Day.

SUMMER 2027 YOUTH TRIP INFO SESSIONS (yes, already) - There are TWO big trips in the works for our youth next summer: The triennial (every-three-year) ELCA Youth Gathering June 28 to July 2 in Minneapolis, MN; and our annual Appalachia Service Project Work Week July 16-23. All 7th through 12th graders, and their parents, are encouraged to attend one of two information sessions to learn more about these opportunities:

  • St. Paul's Fellowship Hall on Sunday, September 13 from noon to 1:00 pm; or
  • St. Matthew's CLC on Sunday, September 13 from 4:00 to 5:00pm.

Registration for both of these trips open in October, so we will need to get our groups assembled soon!

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH PEER MINISTRY RETREAT - If you are in 9th through 12th grade and interested in being trained as a Peer Ministry Leader, reserve the weekend of November 13-15 on your calendar to attend a special retreat in Bethany Beach, DE. More information coming in early September!

Musical Notes from Lindsay

Sunday, August 9: Complaining in the Desert

“Strike the rock, and water will come out of it, so that the people may drink."

- Exodus 17:6

Gathering Hymn: I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say

Set to the familiar English folk tune Kingsfold, the text of ELW 611 contains several passages that illustrate the reading from Exodus, which depicts God's provision of water to the Israelites through Moses' striking of the rock:

Lay down, O weary one...behold, I freely give the living water...my thirst was quenched, my soul revived

Song of the Day: My Life Flows on In Endless Song <-- This links to my favorite choral arrangement of this hymn

The text from Robert Lowry continues the thematic references to water by professing the unending calm experienced via the peace of Christ...a fountain ever springing. Despite the tumult and the strife the question is repeated: How can I keep from singing? I know the feeling.

Sending Song: By Grace We Have Been Saved

Just as the Israelites experienced the saving grace of God, both through their escape from Pharaoh and from their thirst in the desert, so do we receive the same unending love and provision through our faith. Although the Israelites go so far as to say to Moses: "Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die of thirst?” God still provides for them.

Experience with Google Voice

If anyone has had experience with using Google Voice in their business or organization, would you please contact Cari in the church office? In our quest to always steward funds carefully, we are looking at this as an option for our phone system. Thanks!
