Sanjay Gandhi
Dear Ohio-ACC Colleague,

My three-year term as your chapter President ends on March 31, 2021. I want you to know that it has been an honor and a privilege to serve you. As Chapter President, I have had the pleasure of working with cardiologists, cardiovascular team members, and FITs across the state. I thank all of you for the friendship you have shared with me as we worked to advance the Ohio-ACC mission: to serve as the professional home for cardiovascular team members and to optimize cardiovascular health in Ohio. I would like to recognize Jennifer Dicken, BSN, RN-BC, AACC, our outgoing CV Team liaison, for her leadership as my partner. I would not have been able to deliver without the support of the Board Members, Past-President Laxmi Mehta, MD, FACC, and the volunteers who have contributed their time and efforts to the Ohio-ACC. Thank you; your dedication to the Ohio-ACC is impactful. I want to give a special shout-out to Gwen Goldfarb, our chapter executive, who manages all chapter activities and is a strong advocate for our members and the chapter.
Grewal Robinson
Karanvir "Kanny" Grewal, MD, FACC, and Andrea Robinson, MSN, RN, CCRN, AACC will transition into the leadership roles beginning April 1, 2021. I know that they will do a fantastic job.

State of the State
As our leadership transition occurs, I thought it would be fitting to share two of our Chapter's accomplishments over the past year. • FIT Bootcamp: In addition to successfully navigating the transition to virtual meetings due to Covid-19, Ohio-ACC launched an innovative educational experience for first-year fellows that was also an opportunity to engage our fellowship program directors across the state. Special thanks to Meera Kondapaneni, MD, FACC, Saima Karim, MD, FACC, and our FIT Co-Chairs Zarina Sharalaya, MD, and Jeremy Slivnick, MD, for spearheading this program. The FIT council and early career faculty developed a curriculum geared towards incoming fellows’ orientation and delivered it in a half-day bootcamp. We had 180 participants from across Ohio and other states. The content was captured and turned into enduring education for our website. We had outstanding feedback and are expanding on this program for the 2021 incoming fellows. This will ensure increased engagement among fellows, early-career faculty, and program directors with the Ohio-ACC while advancing actionable knowledge for our fellows.
  • Spotlight on Women in Cardiology: The Ohio-ACC had two successful networking events for women in cardiology and created a “spotlight on women members” section on our website based on an idea from Varinder Kaur Randhawa, MD. The program will create a spotlight wall for Ohio-ACC WIC members, similar to her project with the Canadian Cardiology Society. This spotlight program will allow us to address issues affecting our members’ personal and professional careers while providing an opportunity to highlight and showcase their accomplishments. We invite all of our Ohio-ACC women cardiologists to sign up to be a part of this special section via this link.

Ohio Legislature Designates March as Cardiac Amyloidosis Awareness Month
The more we know, the better we can manage our health. That was the spirit behind recent legislation that establishes March as Cardiac Amyloidosis Awareness Month. Establishing this designation gives elected leaders and medical providers a good starting place to tell patients about this rare and serious disease. Additional information can be found on the Amyloidosis Foundation website at www.Amyloidosis.org.

Three New CardioSmart Infographics on Women and Heart Disease
Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the U.S., causing more women's deaths than all cancers, including breast cancer. At the same time, women often ignore symptoms and are less likely to get optimal treatment for heart conditions. The CardioSmart team has developed a series of Women and Heart Disease Infographics, showing how women can stand up for their health and watch for symptoms of heart disease before, during and after pregnancy. Download for free these infographics and find out more about heart disease in women at CardioSmart.org/Women.

A better understanding of variations in total cost of care for PCI, when evaluated against related quality of care measures in ACC's CathPCI Registry, may help facilities improve the value of care delivery, according to an abstract presented at ACC's Cardiovascular Summit Virtual. Researchers benchmarked the average total cost of care, in terms of the amounts charged and allowed for reimbursement, for elective and nonelective PCI procedures. The ACC partnered with FAIR Health, a convener of claims data, to identify 134 procedure codes that indicate a PCI occurrence, as well as related resource utilization codes. The results may help cardiovascular clinicians better understand the total cost of care, which can guide them in identifying opportunities to address costs, while also optimizing outcomes. The Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Cost of Care Study will be available to sites participating in the CathPCI Registry in March. Read more.
