Armando Pimentel, President and Chief Executive Officer of Florida Power and Light (FPL) will join us in person on October 5 to speak to the Club on "Energy of the Future". FPL, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy, Inc., and the largest investor-owned electric utility in the nation, appointed Mr. Pimentel president and CEO in February 2023. Please note this meeting will be held at FSU Dunlap Champions Club.
As America’s largest electric utility, Florida Power & Light Company serves more customers and sells more power than any other utility, providing clean, affordable, reliable electricity to approximately 5.8 million accounts, or more than 12 million people. FPL operates one of the most fuel efficient and cleanest power generation fleets in the U.S and in 2022 won the ReliabilityOne® National Reliability Award for the seventh time in the last eight years. Previously, Mr. Pimentel served as president and CEO of NextEra Energy Resources, a competitive clean energy supplier and the world’s largest generator of renewable energy from the wind and sun and a world leader in battery storage. NextEra Energy Resources operates three nuclear power plants in two states, and its parent company, NextEra Energy, operates one of the largest nuclear power fleets in the nation. Mr. Pimentel also previously served as executive vice president, finance, and chief financial officer of NextEra Energy.
Prior to joining NextEra Energy, Mr. Pimentel was a partner at Deloitte & Touche and held various client and leadership positions in the financial services and energy industries. He also led Deloitte’s power and utilities business segment. From 1996 to 1998, Mr. Pimentel worked in the Office of the Chief Accountant of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as a professional accounting fellow.
Mr. Pimentel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Florida State University.
