Cooling Center Extended in Rancho Cordova
While temperatures might be cooling down slightly, wildfires outside of Sacramento County are bringing smoky air into our city. Due to air quality and to ensure members of our community can remain safely indoors, the City of Rancho Cordova has extended its Cooling Center hours at City Hall. The Cooling Center is open from noon – 6 PM through today, August 21, at 2729 Prospect Park Drive. Signage will direct residents to the cooling center room.
Complimentary water and snacks will be provided, and family-friendly movies will be streaming. Please note that pets cannot be accommodated at Rancho Cordova City Hall, though service animals will be allowed.
Residents must wear a face covering at all times and keep a safe distance of at least six feet from others. Hand sanitizer will be available and face masks will be provided to those who do not have one.
During this time, please remember:
- Stay indoors and use your air conditioning.
- Change your air filters regularly to keep your indoor air clean or use a portable air cleaner.
- Avoid adding indoor pollution with candles, fireplace use, or fried cooking.
- If you have asthma, continue to follow your asthma management plan.
- Contact your doctor if you have symptoms you believe to be caused by smoke.
- Children, the elderly and people with respiratory or heart conditions should be particularly careful to avoid exposure.
- Outside, avoid producing sparks or having flames near anything that could catch on fire, especially dry grass, trees and structures.
Cloth face coverings and surgical masks are not effective protection against wildfire smoke. The most effective way to reduce exposure to smoke is to stay indoors. For tips on staying cool and hydrated, click here. For more information, stay tuned to the city's social media channels.
