| Spring is in the air -- which means that LAC's Annual Rummage Sale is coming soon!
Though this beloved tradition is a huge annual undertaking, it has always been a labor of love for our church. The ways this love is expressed are as varied as the volunteers who make it all happen, but there is a common thread running through every explanation. They all say, in one way or another, what makes it all worthwhile is the opportunity to support our friends and neighbors. “For me,” Kim Larsen says, “the LAC Rummage Sale sparks joy! I feel good about repurposing items that would otherwise have ended up in a landfill. I smile when I see shoppers’ faces light up as they discover unique and affordable items. I enjoy working alongside friends to bring the rummage sale to life. And I LOVE giving rummage sale proceeds -- thousands of dollars -- to LAC’s nonprofit partners doing God’s work right here in our community.”
Longtime volunteer Clark Morehouse also looks forward to the fellowship and camaraderie of the sale. “I see so many Larchmont residents that my wife, Susan, and I have known in the 43 years we have lived in town," he says. "It’s great to catch up.”
Another obvious benefit is the financial support the sale offers to our community. In 2025, the LAC Rummage Sale netted proceeds of more than $29,000, all of which were donated to our local mission partners. For example, the Larchmont/Mamaroneck Community Counseling Center used its 2025 grant to support graduate student interns and to address a backlog of local therapy requests. The STEM Alliance applied its grant toward the costs of the highly successful Co-op Camp, which helps local kids continue their academic and social progress through the summer months. Other mission partners supported by the sale include HOPE Community Services, The Sharing Shelf, At Home on the Sound, Neighbors for Refugees, and the Midnight Run.
In a day and age when divisions in our society seem to be growing deeper and wider by the day, the importance of opportunities like the LAC Rummage Sale, which help people of different backgrounds come together in common cause, cannot be overestimated.
This community-wide blessing is coming up, so we hope that all of you are searching through your closets, drawers, basements, attics for treasures you can be recycled, reused, or repurposed. Click the link below to explore ways that you can get involved!
