What could a 60/40 matching grant do for your historic commercial district? Any Missouri community interested in assistance to establish a Main Street Organization or Downtown Revitalization Program should attend this workshop.  Only 5 grant awards will be available in 2019. Don't let this opportunity pass you by. All potential applicants must attend one Affiliate Grant Workshop. The grant workshop will explain the Main Street Philosophy of Revitalization and demonstrate the grant application criteria, materials, and process. May 1 from 10 am to 1 pm Governor State Office Building 200 Madison Street, Suite 316 Jefferson City, MO 65101  This workshop is FREE but RSVP is required. There is an optional Lunch & Learn ($15 fee for box lunch) with an experienced Main Street representative sharing success stories.

Old Town Cape Celebrates 20 Years

Gayla and Keith were honored to be part of  Old Town Cape, Inc.  20-year anniversary celebration last evening. We are proud of the great achievements Old Town Cape has accomplished over the past 20 years and Marla Mill’s Executive Director shared her favorite quote from Margaret Mead. It definitely sums it up for Old Town Cape, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has” Dr. Steven Hoffman said, “..20 years and 30 awards... I think it comes down to this - continuing to call attention to the fact that place matters. In a world where talent can go anywhere the only thing that separates us from everywhere else is the quality of our built environment and the parts of our community that provide its unique character are its historic downtown buildings and places. These are the places we need to preserve if we are going to be the kind of community in which people want to live, work and play. And we need to celebrate as often as we can… when we are successful in saving them.  Research shows that the ability of people to form attachments to place is enhanced in quality historic environments… environments with character, and with meaning… the kind of places that Old Town Cape has been working… with your help… to preserve, reuse and revitalize for all kinds of uses… commercial, residential and cultural. As you can see from the great award winning projects highlighted tonight, working together over the past twenty years we’ve been able to accomplish a lot!” We are looking forward to being part of the next 20 years of success for Old Town Cape.

Great Places In Missouri Awards Given By The American Planning Association

Congratulations to Downtown Lee's Summit and Main Street Chillicothe on their Great Places in Missouri awards given by the American Planning Association, Missouri Chapter.  Downtown Lee's Summit received the Great Neighborhood Award.  Main Street Chillicothe received the Great Public Space award for Silver Moon Plaza.

We will be highlighting three Missouri historic sites and seventeen Missouri Main Street Communities who are working diligently to preserve their historic resources. Through this project, we hope to encourage Missouri citizens of all ages to learn more about the history surrounding them, discover new sites and communities, and understand the importance of preserving our history and historic places for generations to come.
