Hello WW Philadelphia Members,
Happy Independence Day! All live and virtual workshops will be closed on Sunday, July 4th. Please have a safe and healthy holiday!
As shared in last week’s newsletter, "the quarantine 15" was more like quarantine 20-45 pounds for most people. Our need to comfort ourselves with food is showing on the scale now.
What about YOU? Where have you been going with your healthier you during 2021?
So often we are disappointed in ourselves for not going fast enough or steady enough in our weight-loss progress. I have said many times, a WW workshop is the only place where we applaud the weight change of a ¼ pound. The same weight as a stick of butter which is a good visual when losing weight slowly. If you hung that stick of butter from your chin or taped it to your thigh you would know it is there. Yet often we are so disappointed because it was only a ¼ pound.
The same applies when getting active, starting at square one is not fun….
We know the value of aerobic activity. Bringing up the heart rate can enhance weight loss while resistance exercise builds muscle which can contribute to a better metabolism.
I have always found the motivation for formal exercise difficult to come by. Early in my weight loss journey I knew I needed aerobic activity and I asked for a good quality exercise bike as a gift from the husband and darn it, I received it.
Knowing this new in-home torture device was arriving soon, I started talking about the amount of time I was going to do this every day. Most of the talking was me talking to me but you know, talking to yourself is really okay. And usually, you are the only one listening, so talk away.
I told myself I would ride this bike 1 hour a day, six days a week. Now remember, I was nearly 100 pounds over goal weight.
The bike arrived and we put it together. I excitedly got on it and started to pedal, this model also had the arm action. I managed to complete 12 minutes and then I stumbled to the couch to recuperate. The next day I did 14 minutes and before too long I was able to do an hour.
So often we expect perfection and being our own harshest critic, it is hard to remember progress is progress. Whether it is ounces of weight loss or minutes of activity, it is part of the forward-moving process.
Now on to the second half of 2021, let’s make attainable goals with manageable rewards. Let’s move the bigger sizes out and find the smaller items in the closets. Let’s truly work the magic of portion control and add appropriate activities for our own size and ability. Move down a ½ pound every week for the rest of the year and lose 13 more pounds. Push a little and double that. Share your successes with me on our Studio Facebook pages or by replying to this newsletter and be sure your WW Team at your workshops know about your progress. Celebrating you and your accomplishments in workshops is recognition of your hard work but is also inspiring to other Members sitting on the fence.

Don’t hold back, weight loss is weight loss and movement is movement. Achieve, celebrate, and repeat.
Enjoy the holiday weekend, stay safe, and be kind,
