Dress a Girl Around the World Success Day
On April 15th, Dress A Girl (DAG) West Bridgewater / Bridgewater together with BSU students and alums gathered to accomplish something truly impactful: the group made and packed 164 dresses, t-shirts, and 60 short sets. Special thanks to Carrie Clark, President of BSU Alumni Association for encouraging students and alumni to come and join the sewing and packaging day! Thank you to everyone who came to help, your generosity gives children clothes of their own. Gloria Moran was moved; “This was a very special event and we all decided it would become an annual event. A huge thanks to Emily Williams. Director and the senior center and Ann Holgrem, executive assistant.”

Wolves in Bridgewater?
In our town's early history, wolves were a common threat to people as well as livestock. They were so much a threat that approximately fourteen men were charged with the task of making traps for the town. If the traps didn't work, there were monetary consequences.
Town Records of Bridgewater, Mass.
"It is agreed upon by the Towne of Bridgewater the twelfe of March 1656, that there shall be five woulfe traps made and completely finished...by the last of March. Insuing the date, if any shall be found defective...they are to pay the town for every day they do neglect the work..."
Excerpts from: Records of John Cary,
The First Town Clerk of Bridgewater, Mass.,
From 1656 to 1681,
By Loring W. Puffer, 1889

Climate Can-Do: Speaking Up for Nature
There will always be a struggle to balance society and nature; but we, as the society, have a say in how our environment is treated. We can speak up. We know keeping our environment healthy affects our quality of life. One action we can take is let our local government know we care.
Local senators and representatives keep count of how many people contact them per issue. Because so many people spoke up about the algae blooms in Monponsett Pond (Halifax), it took a mere few years to clean it up. When we work together, we take important steps in caring for our earth. One active campaign right now is prevent radioactive waste from the decommissioned Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant from being dumped into Plymouth Bay. For more information, visit: www.saveourbayma.com.
Doing our part isn’t only about limiting our environmental footprint– it’s about community, and caring for every living thing within it. Advocating for our environment is one of the most crucial things that can be done. Contact local government officials and join in campaigns like Save Our Bay. Helping the planet is just a few steps away.
This Climate Can-Do Article was written by Sam Isom, BuzzAround Writing Intern, Bridgewater State University. We focus on actions which individuals can do in the face of our climate emergency. We can do!

Invading Mars
Wednesday, May 3
6:30–7:30p
Flora T. little Meeting Room
Bridgewater Public Library
Join Bridgewater State University professor Joseph Doyle for a presentation about life on Mars. In 1938 a fictional invasion by the inhabitants of Mars panicked many Americans. Today we are invading Mars with our robots and spacecraft. Mars has become a world of robots that poke and prod the land, photograph the surface, and probe with ever more advanced instruments in order to discover the history of this world, did it have the ingredients for life and could life have arisen on this small world? What is the evidence for what we now know about Mars and its suitability to have given rise to life in the past?
There will be time for questions after the presentation.

April is Poetry Month
Hmm. Poetry? You ask. Of course.
Poetry can express emotion and ideas in thoughtful and delicate ways, or in pounding stark ways. I thoroughly enjoy the unusual use of words. It taps into that which seems elusive. And so, for poetry month, let's look at poets!
Here; dive into Langston Hughes:
“Gather out of star-dust,
Earth-dust,
Cloud-dust,
Storm-dust,
And splinters of hail,
One handful of dream-dust,
Not for sale.”
"Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly."
“Oh, God of Dust and Rainbows,
Help us to see
That without the dust the rainbow
Would not be.”
“Well, son, I'll tell you:
Life for me ain't been no crystal stair.
It's had tacks in it,
And splinters,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor --
Bare.
But all the time
I'se been a-climbin' on,
And reachin' landin's,
And turnin' corners,
And sometimes goin' in the dark
Where there ain't been no light.
So boy, don't you turn back.
Don't you set down on the steps
'Cause you finds it's kinder hard.
Don't you fall now --
For I'se still goin', honey,
I'se still climbin',
And life for me ain't been no crystal stair.”

Also, here is a great site for exploring poets. poets.org
You are a poem, after all. Shine. Live life completely.
