We lift up Bianka, Liam, Daniel, Zach, and Alistair in the military. We pray for peace in Sudan, Ukraine, and the Middle East. We pray for those we now name aloud or lift up quietly in our hearts.

The Lenten Gospel of Luke

This Lent (February 18 through Easter on April 5) we will continue exploring the Gospels, moving on to the Gospel of Luke. This is one of the best ways to grow in faith, reading a Gospel account of Jesus’ life. Luke has many unique details including Mary’s perspective and a number of miracles and parables from Jesus. As we continue reading, we will ultimately read of Jesus’ sacrifice and resurrection as we enter Holy Week! The series offers the daily opportunity to read, or listen to the Gospel of Luke while the worship services focus on what we have read. On Wednesday evenings we’ll be watching the movie The Gospel of Luke, word for word from the Bible with actors on location acting out the text. Best of all, there will be weekly Bible study groups where you can discuss what you’ve read while making friends. To sign up, please visit StPaulsLionville.org/luke. We hope this series will be a blessing to you!

Congregational Meeting and Brunch

On Sunday, February 1 we will have our annual congregational meeting, following our single combined at 9:30 am. There will be no Sunday School that morning, but our wonderful Sunday School staff will be providing a short activity for kids during the meeting. We will also be gathering for a potluck style brunch. Please sign up here to attend, help out, or bring a dish to share. Snow date is Sunday, February 8.

Bring-A-Friend Sunday

We will be celebrating “Bring-a-Friend Sunday” at both services on Sunday, February 15. Please reach out to a friend, family member, or neighbor and invite them to join us at St. Paul’s.

More Snow and the Triple Blessing of Automatic Giving

We have had a snowy winter so far, and unfortunately we had to cancel worship for snow on December 14 and January 25, and we also had lower attendance due to snow on January 18. It's great that we offer the worship livestream, but it definitely affects St. Paul's finances when the weather is poor. If you were considering automatic giving, this would definitely be a good time!

Automatic giving is a real blessing for St. Paul’s as it means a consistent and dependable income, even when weather is bad or people are out of town. For you, it offers a simple and convenient way to give regularly, similar to setting up automatic payments for things like a mortgage or utilities. You can arrange automatic giving through your bank’s bill pay service, usually with no fees, or in just a few minutes on our church Give webpage. The final blessing Jesus notes in Luke 6:38, "...the measure you give will be the measure you get back.” Thank you so much for considering automatic giving to support the ministry of St. Paul’s!

Monday Morning Bible Study

The Monday morning Bible study group was postponed due to weather on January 26, but you are invited to join for their next discussion. Their overview study on World Religions will no begin on Monday, February 2 at 10:00 am in room 110 and run through Monday, May 18, 2026. Come when you can! For more information, contact Mary McCormick at Jandmmccormick@yahoo.com.

Rare Birds Pizza and Game Day

The Rare Birds (ages 50+) next meeting will be a pizza and game day in the Fellowship Hall on Tuesday, February 10 at noon. If you’d like to join, please plan to bring a favorite game to share and RSVP to Karen Lammey by Tuesday, February 3.

Chat and Chews Book Club

The Chat and Chews Sunday School Book Club meets on the THIRD Sunday of each month, however in February we will meet on the FOURTH Sunday, due to Friend's Sunday. We meet after the late service in the Lounge next to the Hospitality Room. Our next meeting will be on Sunday, February 22, and we will discuss 2 books: "The Nurse's Secret," by Amanda Skenandore, and "Prayer--Does it Make a Difference," Part 4, by Philip Yancey. You do not have to finish the book or even read it to join us in a lively and faithful discussion. Please contact Gwen Werner at ggwerner@verizon.net or call the church office for more information. Happy Reading!

Ash Wednesday and Wednesday Lenten Services

Our Lenten journey starts on Wednesday, February 18. We will have worship services at noon and 7:00 pm with Holy Communion and the imposition of ashes. We hope you can attend one of these very special worship services! During the Wednesdays of Lent (February 25-April 1) we will have brief

services at 7 pm which will include The Gospel of Luke movie. More information on the Gospel of Luke Lenten worship series is coming soon.

Pop Up Thrift Store Next Weekend

Our next pop up thrift store will be on Saturday and Sunday, February 7 and 8 from 8:00 am - 2:00 pm in the parsonage. Donations, especially of home decor items, are welcome and may be left in the airlock between the two sets of double doors

  • Individual bags of chips, pretzels, crackers or cookies
  • Granola bars
  • Individual servings of fruit or applesauce

If you can contribute, put your donation in the bin in the narthex labeled Living Love Lunches. Thank you for helping the homeless in Chester.

Sheets Needed

Sheets are needed for Lutheran World Relief projects. Any size or material. Place your gently used sheets in the bin under the table in the hallway.

Musical Notes From Lindsay

Our new music director, Lindsay Woessner, wants to share some information about songs for upcoming services and why she's chosen them. See below for this week's notes and keep an eye out for future notes.

Listen For It

February 1, 9:30am Service, Sending Song: My Lighthouse

Why I Love This Song? The use of metaphor provides powerful imagery, describing a storm of troubles, and Jesus' promise to deliver us "safe to shore." The instrumentation includes mandolin and accordion, creating a rich folk sound.

Get Ready to Love It

February 8th @ 10:30am Service, Song of the Day: Act Justly, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly

Why I Love This Recording? The live acoustic version trims the song back to acoustic guitar and vocals, allowing the raw power of the text to be at the front and center. Enjoy, and get ready to join us in singing this "new-to-us" selection. We'll have an informal rehearsal of the song's chorus before the start of 10:30 am worship on 2/8.
