Judge Isaacson was appointed last year to fill Judge McGovern's term, and then was successful in his first election this past November. Judge Isaacson then swore in re-elected Mayor Brown, Deputy Mayor Becky McGovern and Trustees Effie Phillips-Staley and David Kim.

The Tarrytown Seniors celebrated their annual 2025 Holiday Party at the Abigail Kirsch Tappan Hill Mansion. The Tarrytown Seniors are a membership organization that provides classes, cultural field trips, seasonal events, and other ways to socialize with fellow community members, a wonderful antidote to the isolating tendencies of our modern age. This year, the group celebrated the 90th birthdays of 6 of their members. To find out more about the activities and offerings of the Tarrytown Seniors or to make use of the free Senior shuttle bus that operates Monday to Friday, please reach out to the Tarrytown Recreation Department: dwalczewski@tarrytownny.gov or (914) 631-8347.

Highlights from the December 1, 2025 Board Meeting

Annual Organizational Meeting:

Committee Appointments and Re-Appointments

Every year, at the first December Board of Trustees Meeting, the Village re-adopts its policies, confirms committee appointments and appoints Village officials.

In 2025, the Village created a new Committee - the Cultural Heritage Recognition Committee - and welcomed several new volunteers to serve on our Village Boards.

The following are some of the new volunteers serving the Village of Tarrytown:

Rainer Stoll - Planning Board

Milan Kanagathayalan  - Planning Board and Cultural Heritage Recognition Committee

Regina Poniros - Zoning Board of Appeals

Daphne Estevez - Cultural Heritage Recognition Committee

Lane Cobb - Cultural Heritage Recognition Committee

Elizabeth Moore - Cultural Heritage Recognition Committee

Maria Canales - Cultural Heritage Recognition Committee

Kari Fitterer - Cultural Heritage Recognition Committee

Ruthie Kalai - Cultural Heritage Recognition Committee

Ed "Bear" Miller - Cultural Heritage Recognition Committee

Loretta London - Cultural Heritage Recognition Committee

Many more residents volunteer for Village boards and committees, some of whom have been doing so for many years and even decades. A complete list can be found on the Village website.

The Village is looking for volunteers to serve on the Planning Board and on the Local Waterfront Revitalization Planning Committee. If interested, please submit an online application. Wondering what is involved or have other questions? Please reach out: administrator@tarrytownny.gov.

Holiday Parking

Free Parking in Downtown Municipal Lots from Dec. 5 - Jan. 5.

The Board voted to provide free parking this holiday season in all downtown municipal parking lots from Friday, December 5 through Monday, January 5, 2026. This year the downtown street meters will remain in operation to promote parking turnover in front of our downtown businesses. Free parking often encourages people to leave their cars for longer, and we want to make it easy for shoppers to come and spend money at our local businesses, and circulate. Time limits in the public lots will continue to be 6-hours, while street meter parking is limited to two-hour increments.

Please consider shopping local this season. We have Chamber-sponsored Winter Stroll coming on Saturday, December 13th which is a great excuse to snag the free Holiday Parking downtown and enjoy an afternoon of festive fun. Want a refresher on all of the great boutiques we have in Tarrytown? Check out this local map created by the Tarrytown Business Alliance.

A map of parking lot locations can be found on the Village website: https://trainstation.axisgis.com/TarrytownNY/

Maintaining Paths and Sidewalks

The Tarrytown Village Code requires that property owners maintain sidewalks adjacent to their properties. This helps the Village ensure that all public pathways are kept free of debris, obstructions, snow, ice and other elements that might impede free and safe passage for pedestrians.

When the New York State Thruway Authority constructed the new pedestrian bridge across I-287 last year, they also extended the shared-use path from the entrance to the Mario Cuomo Bridge all the way to the Old Croton Aqueduct crossing at Lyndhurst. The sidewalk was widened to accommodate both pedestrians and bicycles. Under New York State Law, e-bikes are permitted on shared use paths but not on sidewalks. Therefore, the Village needed to clarify for property owners that the same rules for maintenance that apply to sidewalks in the Village of Tarrytown also apply to shared use paths. Adjacent property owners are still responsible for maintenance.

As e think about clearing snow and ice from our sidewalks this season, keep our pets and our rivers in mind. Some helpful tips from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation:

  • Shovel what you can first. Removing snow and ice first helps reduce the amount of rock salt you’ll need.
  • Think twice before you start spreading rock salt. You only need 12 ounces to effectively melt snow and ice on a 20-foot driveway.
  • Know the temperature. Rock salt will not melt snow or ice below 15 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Salt brine isn't just for Thanksgiving turkeys! You can use a combination of rock salt and water and apply it to your driveway and walkways to keep it ice free.
  • Combine 3.5 cups of rock salt per gallon of hot tap water.
  • Stir until all salt is dissolved. Let any gravel settle to the bottom.
  • Pour the brine into a regular garden sprayer and spray in a zig-zag pattern over desired area.
  • Save extra brine to use later.
  • Make informed decisions about the impacts of your deicers. Check out Minnesota Pollution Control Agency's properties of deicing agents before you make a purchase.

The Climate Action Planning committee has come up with an initial list of recommended strategies which can be found in the presentation given at the Disaster Preparedness workshops, but we also want to hear from you! Are there actions you think the Village needs to take to prepare for the impacts of climate change? Please complete the survey by December 15.

Project Mover: Saying Goodbye for Winter Months

Vouchers for income eligible households to buy e-bikes still available

The Project Mover e-bikeshare program will be closed down by December 19 with an anticipated re-launch next spring. The program launched in Tarrytown in May. By the end of October, 8,427 bike trips were taken across all participating municipalities in 2025, with 1,397 of them beginning in Tarrytown. A total of 13,106 miles were traveled and 1,128,260 calories were burned thanks to Project Mover in 2025.

The program will remain open in Sleepy Hollow this winter as a pilot initiative to review usage and the impact on the equipment. The Village of Tarrytown will consider a winter season next year.

Project Mover continues to distribute vouchers for income eligible applicants to subsidize the purchase of an e-bike. For those who make less than 80% of Area Median Income or who already participate in a program like SNAP or HEAP can qualify for a $1,000 voucher toward the purchase of an e-bike which can add up to between 60 and 80% of the purchase price depending on the bike.
