Community Awareness Picnic and Movie Night Saturday
|
The Steve Miklos Aquatic Center, in partnership with the Folsom Police and Fire departments, hosts the Community Awareness Picnic and Movie Night Saturday, June 22. This event is designed to highlight resources that are available to community members with special needs. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the first 300 guests will receive a free BBQ dinner. Attendees may also bring their own picnic dinner, and a variety of snacks and drinks will be available for purchase from the Poolside Café. Swimming is available from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and an open-air screening of the animated movie “Smallfoot” begins at 8:40 p.m. The Steve Miklos Aquatic Center is located at 1200 Riley Street. Register Your National Night Out Event
|
Share in the camaraderie as neighborhoods throughout Folsom partner with the Folsom Police and Fire departments for the annual National Night Out Tuesday, August 6. The National Night Out program promotes involvement in crime prevention, police-community partnerships, and neighborhood community building. Neighborhoods hosting celebrations are encouraged to register their events with the Folsom Police Department. Each year, Folsom police officers, firefighters, and city officials attend dozens of events throughout the city and visit with hundreds of residents at the registered events. Folsom Police Department Offers Vacation Checks
|
As many residents prepare for summer vacations, the Folsom Police Department’s Citizens Assisting Public Safety (CAPS) volunteers are gearing up to patrol and check on homes where the property owners are away. The vacation checks are offered free of charge to Folsom residents. As often as once a day, a CAPS volunteer will walk the perimeter of the home, check doors and windows to make sure they are locked, and remove any advertisements or packages from the front porch.
If they see a problem, they’ll notify you and, if appropriate, will have a police officer respond. Vacation check a

Free Senior Workshop Friday
|
The Folsom Senior Center hosts an iPhone Training Workshop from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 21. The workshop for ages 50+ is presented by California Phones, and will provide hands-on training for iPhone users to become more familiar with basic phone functions, how to send and receive text messages, how to connect Bluetooth devices, and other helpful tips. Note: this workshop focuses exclusively on iPhones; bring your phone with you. Reserve your seat by calling 916-461-6601; the workshop is held at the Folsom Senior Center, 48 Natoma Street.

Home Repairs for Folsom Seniors
|
Folsom senior citizens meeting low-income requirements can receive assistance for home repairs through the City of Folsom Seniors Helping Seniors Home Repair Program. The program is designed to help qualifying residents to age in place by offering a variety of health- and safety-related home repairs, such as electrical, plumbing, appliance, and heating/air conditioning services. The program is not for cosmetic repairs or renovations. To be eligible for assistance through the program, applicants must be at least 65 years of age (55 years of age if a homeowner has a verifiable disability) and earn less than 80 percent of the median income for Sacramento County. As part of this service, a city water conservation specialist will run your sprinkler system and evaluate its efficiency, provide advice on how to operate it, help you determine an effective watering schedule, and give advice on upgrading your system with new technology. Lawn care can sometimes be challenging in Folsom, due to the area’s warm temperatures, rocky clay soils, and sloped lawns. Learn the secrets to a healthy, green lawn as well as friendly alternatives to traditional turf at a free lawn care workshop offered by the City of Folsom Water Conservation Division. Folsom Parks & Recreation offers a huge variety of fun and engaging camps for kids and teens to learn a new sport or sharpen existing skills, showcase their talents through the arts, spark their imaginations through creative play, explore and enjoy the outdoors, make new friends, and create lasting memories.
