October 23 Boundary Proposal

Dear District 65 Community,

We recognize that potential school closures and changes to attendance boundaries are difficult for families and our community overall. We also know how important it is for families to be heard and have meaningful opportunities to provide input throughout this process.

We have received significant feedback on the initial proposed attendance boundaries for the 2027-2028 school year, which are being considered as part of the recommended closures of Dewey and Lincolnwood elementary schools. Please know that no other schools are being proposed for closure at this time as part of the plan.

Our team has carefully reviewed this input, identified common themes and made adjustments to better reflect the concerns and priorities shared thus far. The updated proposal, referred to as the October 23 Boundary Proposal, reflects this feedback and our ongoing commitment to listening and responding to our community. We are also collecting additional input on community values and priorities to better inform future boundary proposals. Please complete this online survey through Friday, November 6, at 5pm.

We will continue our discussion of our comprehensive solution to addressing our structural deficit at Monday's Regular Board Meeting which will be recorded and livestreamed. We understand the significant interest in proposed changes to attendance boundaries and wanted to ensure families had additional time over the weekend to review, understand how they may be impacted and consider any additional feedback they would like to share.

Thank you for your continued partnership.

With appreciation,

Eric Witherspoon, Ph.D.

Interim Superintendent
