COUNTING THE COST
One might ask the question, “What does it cost to be a Christian?”
Well, that answer has many facets. The first one is that you cannot do anything to be a Christian by paying money. Jesus alone gave his life and shed his innocent blood to enable you to become a Christian. When you repent of your sin, and surrender your will to God, then he takes up residence in your spirit and you are born again.
The second one is it costs you everything. Everything? Yes, it is an exchange. We give God our lives and in turn he gives us a new one. Our lives now belong to him. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says, “What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
You see, when we become a Christian, we must realize that we are not the owner of our selves anymore. God owns us. Therefore we must glorify God in our bodies, by choosing daily not to sin. We put to death, or crucify ourselves. We choose to serve God rather than self.
In Luke 14 Jesus speaks of a person that wants to build a tower. He must consider how much it costs to build it all the way and be able to finish it. If he does not finish it, then people will mock him. This will happen to those that quit in their Christian walk, forsaking God.
Often, people pray a simple prayer to receive the Lord, but they are not told what it will cost them. In many foreign countries, they know the price of being a Christian, and it is being a martyr. They know if they give their lives to Christ they may die for it. They counted the cost and still made the choice of choosing the Lord over themselves.
Have you counted the cost? Have you considered the price you may pay to serve Jesus? I believe the days are close at hand that Christians and Jews will be persecuted for their faith. The choice must be made to go all the way with the Lord before that happens because it will not be an easy time. Many will die for their stand for Jesus. Others will renounce Christ, to save their lives.
Counting the cost was the way Jesus chose, and I pray that it is the way that you will choose too. If you have not received the Lord as your savior and wish to do so, click here. It will be the best decision you have ever made.
