While “Everything happens for a reason” can be a positive way for some folks to see their struggles, for others the phrase can sound harsh. The truth is that sometimes bad things happen for no reason, with no deep truth to learn or meaning behind the pain. Stuff happens! Our reading this week, from Ecclesiastes, offers understanding and hope for those of us who search for meaning in difficult times.
Jesus, when the great ups and downs of life don’t seem to make sense, help us to find meaning and hope in the gift of life and the work You call us to do with it. Amen.
