Blazer Pride Shines During Homecoming Spirit Week

It was a week to remember for Millbrook High School and Middle School students, who celebrated Homecoming Spirit Week from September 25-29. This annual celebration brought together the school community for a week-long celebration featuring themed dress-up days, a pep rally, a homecoming dance and – of course – a full lineup of Millbrook Blazers sporting events.

The week kicked off with a schedule of spirit week dress-up days with themes including Barbie and Ken, “country vs. country club,” USA, Hawaiian luau and “color war” days. Some students went all out with their ensembles, even hand-making accessories and coordinating with fellow classmates.

Friday afternoon’s pep rally, which welcomed students from both Millbrook Middle and High Schools, was the highlight of the week for many. Students donned face paint, Blazer spirit wear and huge grins as they filed into the high school gymnasium where they were met with music and a lineup of activities. After student musical performances and team introductions by MCSD Athletic Director Alfred Hammell, high schoolers teamed up with their grades for some friendly competition: two dodgeball games. Classmates strategized and shouted to one another as spongy dodgeballs whizzed across the gym and, in some instances, into giggling spectators in the bleachers.

The week also held plenty of action for the district’s sports fans; Millbrook volleyball, golf, soccer, cross country and football teams at all levels faced off against local opponents each afternoon. Though rain bumped the week’s featured event – the varsity football game – to October 2, the school community still came together to support the team during its first home game of the season.

Millbrook High School wasn’t the only place where school spirit was on full display last week! Fashion creativity was also highlighted at Elm Drive and Alden Place Elementary Schools, where they hosted Spirit Weeks of their very own. Students and staff enjoyed sporting silly hats and hairstyles on Monday, their best overalls and cowboy boots for country day on Tuesday, patriotic gear on Wednesday’s “USA Day” and colorful tie-dye and neon on Thursday. The week ended with a “blaze” as students and teachers donned their Blazer blues in a show of Millbrook school spirit.

Some of Millbrook’s youngest students were the most enthusiastic participants; when asked about her Spirit Week experience, kindergartener Kylee Hicks couldn’t hold back:

“I wish I could stay in this week forever!”
