ANNUAL SEE’S CANDY FUNDRAISER
It's time for our delicious See's Candy Fundraiser. We’re raising funds for all music ensembles, music, new instruments, and professional coaching to name just a few categories. This year, we will have two ways of ordering See's for the holidays. The traditional pre-sell method where we collect the money in October, and deliver the candy by Thanksgiving and online fundraising. Wolf-Tones will receive more profit from the pre-sell, so if possible, we are asking families to only use the online link for out-of-town family members where it is not possible to deliver in person.
Oct 30 - Our Fundraiser ends and all orders and money must be turned in
Nov 21 - Candy will be available for delivery
The online store is open, so start ordering
Nov 11 - Online orders start shipping
Dec 6 - Last day to order online

RED RIBBON WEEK
Red Ribbon Week, celebrated annually from Oct 23-31,2024, is the nation's oldest and largest drug prevention awareness campaign. It was established to honor the memory of Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, who, in 1985, was tragically tortured and killed by drug traffickers he was investigating in Mexico. In response to his death, Camarena's high school friend, Henry Lozano, and Congressman Duncan Hunter founded "Camarena Clubs" where members wore red ribbons to signify their stand against drugs. This movement grew, and in 1988, the National Family Partnership (NFP) coordinated the first National Red Ribbon Week, with President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan serving as honorary chairpersons. Today, Red Ribbon Week is recognized nationwide. The red ribbon symbolizes a collective pledge to live drug-free and serves as a tribute to those who have sacrificed their lives in the fight against illegal drugs. Families, schools, and communities come together each year to raise awareness about the importance of a drug-free lifestyle. It's a perfect time to talk to children about the dangers of drugs and to encourage healthy, drug-free choices. Celebrate Red Ribbon Week to promote a brighter, drug-free future.

CULTURAL APPROPRIATION VS CULTURAL APPRECIATION
As Halloween approaches, it is a great time to review cultural appropriation vs. cultural appreciation. Cultural Appropriation is simply taking one aspect of a culture that is not your own and using it for your own personal interest. Cultural Appreciation is when someone seeks to understand and learn about another culture in an effort to broaden their perspective and connect with others cross-culturally. Halloween costumes, such as Native American costumes, fall under cultural appropriation when they are worn by those outside of that culture. Here is another great video by teens to illustrate this concept.
