Flour Bakery + Cafe has been delighting and fortifying the Boston region with delicious baked goods and lunchtime staples since the early 2000s. Joanne brings both science and artistry to her craft and has regularly lectured on the intersection of the two in the bakery. Monday, November 9th, at 7 PM
Sarah Cavanaugh, creator and host of the Peaceful Exit podcast, joins us to discuss her new book, Peaceful Exit: A Guide to Reimagining Your Final Chapter.
For some of us, death will be quick and unexpected. But most of us will have time to think about and plan a peaceful goodbye—if we choose to. Peaceful Exit invites readers to prepare for death as an act of service—both to themselves and to the people they love.
Sarah will be in conversation with friend and Wellesley resident Heather Myers.

Prepare to meet your new best friends! In this Victorian coming-of-age series, Emma returns to her rightful home in London to find that the horrible Cousin Archibald has squandered her inheritance. She must find a way to save her house and livelihood. The cast of characters is adorably quirky. The story is told through first person journal entries so her spirit comes through on every page. Betty and Colleen L. recommend: Peck & Peck by Bonnie Garmus
Betty says:
Fasten your seatbelt for Bonnie Garmus’s rollercoaster ride of a novel. Set largely in the rarefied world of a poetry journal, the book ricochets among the importance of verse (and an ear), the fine points of typeface, and the ever ending cadence of siblings. Her charming characters, including the lovable narrator, will sustain you until you touch down on solid ground. A joy of a story.
Colleen L. says:
Take the plunge into the pithy complexities of family, grief, love, and finding one's way in this sophomore novel from Garmus, author of Lessons in Chemistry. You won't be disappointed! Filled with complex characters, and many twists and turns, it's also humorous, heartfelt, and very smartly written. One of the best reads of the year!

Lorna recommends: Our Noble Selves by Kate Atkinson
I'm a huge fan of Kate Atkinson's books, and Our Noble Selves is no exception. It's a terrific blend of history, humor and suspense. In postwar London, 1949, a troubled former journalist and ex-POW gets a job in the Festival of Britain office—part of the real, great exhibition aimed at lifting spirits after the war.

Dorothy recommends: The Wildest Thing by Emily Winfield Martin (picture book)
"Eleanor loved wild things, Every wing and wild sprout." In this rhythmic rhyming text with charming illustrations, Eleanor unleashes her imagination and creativity, conjuring flowers and beasts in her room before climbing into bed to dream. A lovely bedtime read-aloud.

| | | It wouldn't be late autumn if we didn't have a display full of World's Softest Socks! Never suffer through a day ruined by itchy, uncomfortable socks again. They're not just soft—they're the *world's* softest. | | | | Jett, as in Joan, is an eldest daughter, an overthinker, and a fan of ice cream (relate to all of those). We didn't catch her age, but we know that she's 3/4 Poodle and 1/4 Bernese Mountain Dog. A very evolved pup, she's an excellent hugger and knows "go get mama" and "put your head on mama." Sounds like the sort of emotional support we all could use right now. | | | |
Thank you for supporting your community independent bookstore!
Sincerely,
Rebecca Stimpson
