Attitude Is Everything

Starting the Week Off Right

February 20, 2023

Good Morning,

Have you ever had a time when someone does something to you that you believe to be totally unjustified? I can’t imagine anyone who has not.

I don’t know about you but my initial response, most times, is “I was wronged. How can I get even.” When they fail, I often want to gloat with maybe an “I told you so.” Likely, you have had the same thoughts. After all, we are human. The old sayings of “Revenge Is Sweet”, “I’ll Show You”, “Serves You Right” or “Told You So” come to mind. I am sure you have yours as well.

I don’t believe it is, really, possible to eliminate those thoughts. Probably better to think them to relieve the frustration. The trick is to not act on them. The picture shows a fork in the road for a reason. We have two choices: Actively seek revenge or take the moral high ground and not seek it.

In almost every case, the best approach is to back off and let things play out. Many, many, times you will have been right and when their grand plan fails, they will suffer the consequences, usually in the public eye. Ok, now you can gloat a little but don’t rub it in.

None of this means, particularly where the correct results are important to many, that you back away. Here, keep plugging along because it is the right thing to do and, truly, in everyone’s best interest. You are not doing it as revenge but because it is right. Yes, in some cases, this can be a fine line.

Hope you have a great week and will not need to face this dilemma, but if you do take the high road. Revenge may be sweet but, normally, not the best approach.

Jim
