"Children are the living messages we send to a time we may not see." Oprah Winfrey
    .
Dear Southern Door Community,

This is just a reminder that tomorrow is an Early Release and the last day of school. It's hard to believe another school year has come to an end. Thank you so much for your partnership with us in educating your child this year. Our best wishes to our seniors who graduated on Sunday, and to their families. School will be dismissed around noon tomorrow with the traditional “bubble blowing” farewell and honking of school bus horns, as drivers take students home one last time this year for the summer.

As we come to the end of another very successful school year, may I take this time to tell you what a joy it is to come to work here every day, how privileged I feel to work with our staff and you as parents, and how blessed we are to have such great students in our Southern Door School community. Any parent/family updates throughout the summer will be sent through Infinite Campus messaging, depending on the news to be shared.

May the summer bring you and your family a bit more relaxed pace, some time to enjoy each other, and to explore the many wonderful activities that summer offers. May you and your loved ones be kept safe and healthy. Have a wonderful summer! Stay Eagle Proud and Eagle Strong!

Patti

IMPORTANT
COUNTYWIDE INFORMATION REGARDING TECHNOLOGY CONCERNS WITH YOUTH

Both law enforcement and county schools have seen an increase in the improper use of technology by young people. One of the most recent spikes has been in the reports of "sexting."

Experts say the best time to try and start conversations with kids is when they are young, but it's never too late to start.

LOCAL BUSINESS OWNER ESTABLISHES SCHOLARSHIP FUND FOR TRADES
Mr. Dave Rouer, local business owner of Rouer’s Road House, came up with a great idea for a scholarship to promote the working trades careers. He had many comments from customers about the need to support the trades. With the help of several small business owners in the Southern Door area, he sponsored fundraisers and collected donations for a scholarship fund. He formed the Gardner Community Foundation, and was able to award 3 scholarships of $750 each this school year!

Congratulations to Heath Kennedy, planning a career in carpentry, Shawn Stanzel for CNC machining, and Nathan Kaczmarek, electrical power distribution. All three graduates will be attending NWTC. A big thank you to Mr. Rouer for making this happen!
